I have painted six battalions of Front Rank 28mm Württembergs, except for the officer's horses. Now I have some FR Württemberg light troops to paint.

Württemberg light troops are especially interesting as they sometimes operated together with artillery and cavalry. Making a nice little "Division" for a small game or a command for someone in a bigger game.

The Württemberg Light Brigade had two battalions of Jägers (1st Battalion König and 2nd Battalion von Neuffer) and two battalions of Light Infantry (von Wolff and von Brüsselle).

I will paint a skirmish screen of Jägers von Neuffer (the battalion was often split up), a skirmish screen of Light infantry von Brüsselle and the whole battalion of Light infantry von Wolff. I will save Jägers König for another day as this elite unit often fought as a full battalion. I still have units from Elite miniatures and Connoisseur/Firing line/Bicorne to look at (6 Elite line battalions, 3 Bicorne/Connoisseur line, 6 Firing line battalions) plus another Jaeger screen and a skirmisher screen.

My light infantry figures are from about 1808 (shakos). I am aiming to paint these figures for 1809. The web site I'm using for uniforms is

http://empire.histofig.com/Light Infantry
http://empire.histofig.com/Jäger

I have a few things to check.

Light infantry
- Breeches are white in 1809
- Lapels are still sky blue piped white in 1809 (not yet green)
- Green plume in 1809

Jaegers
- Green breeches
- Green plume in 1809

What fatigue/lounging around head gear did these lads wear?

What does the TMP collective think?

BTW, I am listening to a harpsicord player, Bob von Asperen, who is playing a series of pieces entitled the Württemberg Sonatas.

Here are some of the links to Wurttys which I found in my search

Thanks. Email sent.

Very Good item here!
I have a batch of each from AB in 18/15mm.
This brings up some good points I initially did not consider and will be following closely to see what the conclusion is to be!
I was to follow the 1812 from my Retreat from Moscow uniforms book but now perhaps reconsider here since my Army is to be that of 1809, my preference.
Thanks for info so far!

You might like to consider Rawkins work, now republished in electronic format (disk).

Recommend the Rawkins work. Excellent.

Crikey. I thought that Rawkins title was long lost. Thank you for the link. There doesn't seem to be much in print on Wurttemberg.

The Ebner album shows 24 images datable to 1806-1808:

Ebner published another 10 plates, by Johann Baptist Seele (1774-1814), for uniforms of the period 1809-1813, but I cannot find them online.
They are in the Lipperheide collection at the Kunstbibliothek Berlin, under the index "QDC 4". The archivists at the Kunstbibliothek should be able to help locate existing photos of the plates or arrange to take new ones.

There is this reference work, completed in 1856 and (re-)published at Wuppertal in 1978 by the Dr. Wolfgang Schwarze.
Württembergische Uniformen von 1638 bis 1854
Wilhelm Kohlhaas

These appear to be reproductions of the plates:

If I understand correctly, this is the book for which Kohlhaas prepared his plates:

From the military modelling article, which Hunlion kindly emailed me, I see that the Wurttemberg troops used two types of fatigue caps. The bonnet de police (French style) as shown in the above Peter Bunde plate for Jaegers, and the pokalem model.

I have tons of spare heads (Firing line) with which to add variety to my Firing line battalions. There are some bonnet de police heads. I will convert some of the bare head types to pokalem fatigue caps.

BTW, the firing line figures are FANTASTIC. A real hidden gem in the 28mm Napoleonics world.

Is the green band at the top of shakos only for light infantry rankers and not for Jägers rankers?
