Wurttemberg (along with Bavaria and Saxony) was exempted from sending troops to Spain because Napoleon was worried about the threat posed by Austria. |

Jim, Yes, Würzburg did send the first and second battalions of their infantry regiment into Spain in December 1808 (there were orgnaized as per French batttalions – 6 companies each with an establishment of 120 soldats). These served under général de brigade Amey in the 4e division (Verdier) under Gouvion St. Cyr's corps in Catalonia. In 1811, the second battalion consolidated with the first, sending its cadres back to Würzburg to re-build (to then be sent with the third and fourth battalions to die Russia). The fist battalion remained in Spain until disarmed in late 1813. In Spain, completing the brigade were 4 battalions from the grand-duchy of Berg, the first and second battalions of their 1st and 2nd regiments (also with French orgnization). Perhaps interestingly, in light of the above comments, the nucleus of these battalions – in April 1806 – had been the Bavarian Linien-Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 11 v. Kinkel and the Kreis-Battalion from Nassau-Dillenburg. So, some Bavarians in Spain afterall. - Sasha |

@Alexandre That's great. I'm doing a couple of battalions of Wurzburg to act as satellite French units for my French Peninsular army. I can add a couple of Berg units when I double up on the army sizes. This is for Neil Thomas' Napoleonic rules. |
