I have recently been pulling together forces to do a larger front game for friends that will be visit for the upcoming holidays. Instead of my usually 1 stand equals 1 battalion I am going to do a 1 stand represents 1 brigade. I am going to do an area of the battlefield (circa 1985) that covers the Belgian and BAOR sectors and perhaps part of the West German sector to BAORS north.
I had been thinking about what would be hitting this section of the battlefield. I have spent a lot of time on Cold War Gamers site, which I think has a lot of great info and he mapped out a five front schematic that I thought was interesting and that I may use. Below is his ORBAT for WP units that would fit my scenario.
The Soviet Front attacking into the NORTHAG sector, 1st German Front:
5 NVA CAA; 9 NVA TD, 1 NVA MSD, 8 NVA MSD, 11NVA MSD, NVA MSD (res)
2 GvTA as a CAA; 16GvTD, 94GvMSD, 21MSD, 207MSD, 6MSD (fm NGSF)
3rd Shock Army TA; 7GvTD, 10GvTD, 12GvTD, 47GvTD
16 Air Army.
In his scenario 5 NVA would be hitting the Belgian sector and 2 GvTA hitting BAOR and German units and that the 3rd would be behind to exploit any gaps.
This all seems pretty reasonable to me, so for the moment this is the road map for me in helping finish out the units I need.
I am however curious to hear any other opinions on how the fronts would possibly play out.
