I have been thinking of getting into 3mm gaming for my big battles, but before I plunge headlong into this new project (and before I pass on 6mm) I'd like to know that there is enough variety of available ranges.

In 6mm I know of a bunch, but so far in 3mm I have only found O8 and Germy's stuff over at GZG. I know I must have missed a couple, but I can't seem to find any more.
What other manufacturers makes 3mm sci-fi or modern ranges?

Thank you for your time!

You can get by with a bit more size variation in SF than you can with historical miniatures. Irregular Miniatures does a 2mm SF line. BTW Germy's stuff at GZG is 2mm. While 2mm is generally enough smaller for there to be some compatibility issues among vehicle types with o8s stuff I don't worry about it in the SF genre (some races are short :>b ). Irregulars alien vehicles are quite large for 2mm and fit well with O8. Iron Wind metals has some aircraft which work. IIRC they call them microscale or something like that. They are found in the listings for Battletech/Aerotech. Be sure you buy ones with the microsize listing as the other stuff is 6mm.

Several boardgames also have tanks and mecha which would work in 3mm SF. RISK (various versions) and Twilight Imperium come to mind. Use advanced search for games with miniatures on Board Game Geek to find them. There is another company whose name I can not remember who do pieces and alternate versions of the Axis and Allies board game. There stuff will also work. A lot of these figures can be bought on eBay without having to buy an entire boardgame.

I see folks using 6mm for giant (Ogre type) tanks in 3mm SF as well as some 6mm infantry types as power armor.

Hi,

on my facebook page I have a list with links to several manufacturers:

This includes some shops on Shapeways as well. For example National Cheese Emporium has a line of SciFi vehicles and aircraft on offer.

Cheers,
Benjamin

Thanks for the shout-out, Benjamin!

Also, OP, my 3mm stuff is being looked at right now by a well-established producer to see if making them in pewter is feasible. I just sent off another batch of masters to them this past weekend, so hopefully we'll hear something from them in the next few weeks.

Thanks,
Andreas

You are welcome Andreas.

Nice to hear about those "negotiations". Can you keep me/us informed about that? It would be an interesting option, even I am very happy with your modern 3mm provided via Shapeways. The quality, durability and price are good (and no lead-rot nightmares… :-D ).

Btw, the new CV90 series available from National Cheese Emporium should satisfy some near future/SciFi gamers as well. I have all versions on my desk an like them a lot. :-)

Kind regards,
Benjamin

Seems there was quite a bit I had missed, thank you guys for the suggestions!

I will indeed be using it for sci-fi, so I'm not too worried about things being different sizes, Germy's 2mm stuff is ace, and I intend to use some of it, along with 6mm gzg walkers etc.

@MVC: Thanks for the links, they will be examined!

@Javelin98: I saw your post with the 3mm mechs earlier, seriously tasty-looking stompy robots, like it a lot!
