"From the 1940s until recent times, if a soldier carried a nine-millimeter pistol into battle as part of his weaponry there was a good chance it was a Browning Hi-Power. The Hi-Power was a part of nearly every world conflict of the 20th century. On both sides. Saddam Hussein carried one—and liked to fire it into the air to rile up his supporters. Libyan strongman Muammar Gaddafi owned a customized, gold-plated Hi-Power with an image of his face etched in the grips…" Full article here link Amicalement Armand |

Give me a M1911 .45. If you hit em they go down. |

But the Hi Power 'points' SO much better than the 1911. And I've seen a guy hit in the leg with a .22 croak while his partner took a .45 in the chest and ran off…. |

The first one I was issued in 1979 had been made by the Inglis refrigerator company and had been made to supply the Nationalist Chinese. It had a nice little decal explaining, in Chinese, that it was from their friends in Canada, but obviously was never shipped. It had been manufactured with a slot to attach a shoulder stock. |

I was issued one in Germany, and later in Canada – shot nice enough, but no where near the features I would look for in a pistol nowadays. |

The Browning Hi- Power was my first hand gun I bought in my early 20's great gun shot like a dream and easy to maintain. |

My father had one. When he died my mother insisted my uncle threw it and the other two pistols into the Thames in the middle of the night as they didn't have licenses. |

The Canadian Army is still issuing those Inglis made ones. Still not a bad pistol, even for today. Friends going on tour to Afghanistan were getting pistols issued that have been in stores since they were made! Only problem seams to be, that the Canadian army has not bought any new magazines since Inglis made them seventy years ago. Magazine lips bent through and springs stretched at unholy angles by seventy years of training can play h*** with metal magazines. Buy a couple of thousand new magazines and good for another seventy years. |

I've got one in .40 S&W (modern Browning manufacture). And it does point better than any 1911 I've held. Rob |

At introductry shoot with Browning Hi-power 9mm…… "The effective range of a 9mm pistol is how far you can throw it; It will go further with a full magazine." A handy back up to the 1911A1 Browning .30cal or a Ma-Deuce .50cal MG though. |
