I was lucky enough to be sent a pre-release copy of the new rule set from Osprey, covering wars in North America from the FIW to the War of 1812.

I haven't had a chance to play them yet but have had a good read through and there's a review on my blog here…

I like the fact you don't remove figs. I will most likely get it. Thanks for the review.

How adaptable is this to 15mm? Is basing for that scale specified?

Red358407 Oct 2014 2:36 p.m. PST

There are some suggested sizes for bases but the author does stress that it should be adaptable to whatever basing system you already use.

I can't see why it couldn't be used with any scale…my FIW figures are 15mm and I think this would work fine for them.

Thanks for the review. The 'element' thing was odd for me, too.

I am tempted to at least give them a go. Hopefully some playtest reviews will soon follow.

Excellent, thanks AlastairJ!

I am sitting with my review copy now and there are lots of examples of 15mm scale troops. Examples are given for base size and number of figures on a stand, but they are just as reference. The author explains that as long as both sides have the same basing, then there is no issue. From what I am looking at, it is more important that you are able to create various sizes of units (elements in the rules)

I think this works out very nicely for the period that these rules cover and that they are written for battles in North America.

I will have my review of the rules and a few game plays towards the middle of the month. So far I like what I see and the book is very well made. It is a well bound hardback book. It will survive years of use.

this sounds very similar to black powder (which might not be a bad thing).

are there any hints about table size? does it play well on a 6 x 4 or do larger tables work better?

The scenarios are set up on 4x6 and 6x8. If you are playing 15mm you should be fine on a 4x6.

damn, i was looking more toward 28mm.

thanks though!

They work the same in 28mm. That is what I have and from what I have read on the scenarios in the book, they are set up with 28mm. My first test game this Saturday will be a FIW using 60mm figures. I will be posting my review after the game.

thanks! i'll be sure and look for the review.

The rules are suitable for most scales and basing…just keep things consistent and you'll be fine.
