I wonder if anybody knows what the cylindrical objects are on the B turrets of both Italian Andrea Doria class battleships? |

Maybe a fire director for the turret mounted AAA? |

Breyer calls it a "cylindrical gunnery control instrument". It also allows the easy ID of the 2 ships. It is on the front of the turret in one ship. A before C. |

They are aux fire control, for local control of A and B turrets in the event of the main director being put out of action. The aux fire control for X and Y turrets is located on the after mast. |

I never noticed it was positioned differently on both ships, it was worth asking the question just to learn that alone! Thanks to everyone for answering. :O) |
