So I'm looking forward to my next big project which will be the Punic Wars. I'm not sure how to proceed with what I already have for my Roman army. link

Those Legionaries look like Imperial Romans rather than Republican Romans. |

Yes definitely Early Imperial Romans, so good from the early years AD for a couple of hundred years. The Punic War army has a rather different structure and gear. But very nice minis! |

You will have to buy Repubilcan Romans to do Punic Wars. Mike Adams |

There are more enemies to crush with those Romans; Britain, Caledonia, Germans, Dacia, Sarmatians, Alani, Parthia, and Judea to name a few. |

Not to mention other Romans |

You have a nice looking force of EIR. |

Thanks guys. When I bought them off of Ebay they were listed as Republican Romans and the same gentleman was selling a Carthage army as well. Well I guess I will have to switch gears a little then. What's different about the structure and gear of Republican Romans and Early Imperial Romans? |

EIR have lots and lots of legionaries, squared off shields and don't have great big feathers on their helmets. Republican Roman armies have the 'classic' composition of velites, hastati, princeps and triarii support by allied units and small amounts of cavalry. They have oval shields and big feathers on their heads, some of them wear little square bits of chest armour instead of mail. Having said that, it depends how fussy you are. One of my pals happily uses his Imperial Romans to fight Carthaginians, and everyone else. I've used my Republicans as EIR troops in some cases. You can never have too many Romans. |

Thank you Martin and everyone else for your help. |

I say play whatever you want. Go Hollywood and put EIR against whomever-- Carthage, Spartacus, Pyrrhus, Alexander, and Samurai… But if you need historically correct EIR opponents, I like the Dacians. |

I second Parzival, do what you want. The guys I play with wouldn't know the difference if I put them up against Space Marines! I kid…but sometimes their ignorance is my bliss |

I think I passed on that army after trying to ping the seller that he had them mislabeled. They do look good though. |

I do mix my opponents at times if I'm lacking in a certain area, with no problems. Unfortunately I have two very good DBA players in my group who would know the difference between EIR and Republican Romans. Although they wouldn't mind if I used them for either time period or wouldn't say anything since I'm the one in the group that sets up and puts on most of the games we play. :-) |
