Inspired by a comment in this topic TMP link I was curious if anyone did their Ancients in more of an Imagi-Nation vein than going for strict historical accuracy? I was working on such a project with my Libyan Amazons TMP link TMP link but due to some financial considerations, supply problems, and the whole lot of Libyan Amazons and New Kingdom Egyptians going into storage whwn we moved, that particular project has gone onto the backburner. More recently I took my foray into Hoplite Greeks for DBA with a little bit of Imagi-Nation going on, we will see how it is received when I am finished with the army and post the pictures. How about the rest of you? |

My rules of choice are THW Rally Round the King, and although they are fantasy geared the armies have historical equivalents. I use 1/72 plastics and I get to pick and choose the armies that I want to collect, and there is a map that places the imaginary armies in reasonable proximity to their historical contemporaries. Right know I'm collecting Age of Arthur plastics, but have Egyptians, Trojans and their enemies and allies, and some medieval stuff. I tend to keep them separate because of the map geography, but I don't have to. |

I generally use historic matchups for DBA but I have also redesignated various bases of troops to make up armies for the age of Conan. |

Ancient and Medieval 'Imagi Nations' is surely Conan's Hyboria, Game of Thrones or even David Eddings' world. All of which offer plenty of background and inspiration |

I had a hankering to use the World of Greyhawk for this with the kids. Could still happen at one point – I'd just use my ancients and medieval figures for most of the armies. |

Of course I do all my armies in Imagi-Nations regardless of period, and now that I've escaped into the ancient world I will do them there. One of the things that most intrigues me about the ancient world is the difference in thought and the construction of the universe. |

I have often used imaginary nations and gone to the extent of painting a map with 14 nations that go from a Successor style nation to early 12th Century Franks.Plus also writing the interlinked histories At times it feels like giving birth ! I am also writing and developing something similar for 'mid 19th Century |
