Dear Tango
The painting or the sculpting isn't the issue. It's the composition. I don't care for the look or subject of the finished product. Let's be honest Tango, she's a monster. She may have boobs, she may have a vagina, but she's not human and ugly and--- well monstrous.
Not everything is excused by hanging T*ts on it.
I recall years ago at an MFCA convention one artist had brought in his version of Apollo and Daphne. It was about six inches tall, and was a copy of the classical statue, but the molding and painting were so life-like, with each leaf of the myrtle tree Daphne was turning into, and the bark creeping up her leg, that it was stunning. If it were for sale I would have paid $10,000 USD for it. The guy had fixed up a high resolution magnifier on her face and the likeness and emotion of horror was stunning.
This figure is a "mannerist" composition run amok. Look at the lower left leg. It's way too short above the claw. Compare that to the right leg which is fully extended.
Sorry, technical expertise in sculpting or painting won't make up for bad composition, nor can it attract some people. Technically it's excellent. As far as making an impression-- as I said -- meh!
It's not a question of painting better. There are rock musicians who are great talents and have ability, far more than I, but I consider their work (as I do most rock) as simply noise- sounding like a ton of jagged scrap metal dropped into a vat of kittens -- Pure noise.
As you know from past posts, there are certain figures that I literally fell in love with and like, others I don't.
If the above artist sculpts of paints something beautiful, come back and show me.
