Bought a fleet of WWI ships from a flea market recently and ID'ed most ships except who makes them and what are these two 1/2400 scale ships. Top one: Lead, mis-labeled as the Queen Mary. Bottom one: Resin, not labeled

The top one is HMS Tiger, made by CinC. I don't know what the bottom one is, though. Sorry. BWW |

I'm now pretty sure the bottom one is a Panzerschiffe A-133, Bretagne dreadnought. BWW |

Thanks Brian for your help. Now that I know they are CinC I can see the markings on the bottom match up to the product codes on their web site. The bottom ship sounds about right the other ships that are resin are also French.
looks like I got a good deal at the flea market, I bought 40 ships for $50. USD Now it looks like I just need some destroyers to fill out my fleets. |

Depending on the rules set you use, destroyers are a bit of fluff, that do not add much to a game, IMHO. Naval Thunder has a few models on a single base, the destroyer flotilla has it's own data card. |

Maybe more armored cruisers or light cruisers? |

Don't know whether I agree with sillypoint about destroyers being fluff. The potential for them to dash in for a torpedo attack and for clashes between them and other DDs/CLs defending the battle line are an interesting option IMHO. |

Depending on the rules set you use, destroyers are a bit of fluff, that do not add much to a game, IMHO. Depending on the rules set you use, destroyers can be a critical and exciting part of the battle. For a nice discussion of available 1/2400 DDs (and TBDs), check this discussion here. - Ix |

Maybe more armored cruisers or light cruisers? When shopping for cruisers, I suggest buying everything you can from WTJ, then look at other manufacturers to fill in the gaps. The WTJ rapid prototype miniatures are the best deal around, with GHQ levels of detail at 25-50% of the price. If you're patient, there look to be more coming all the time, as fast as one guy creating 3D printing models all by himself can crank them out. As for other brands:
- I've been very happy with Panzerschiffe armored cruisers with deck turrets (after I dress them up with masts, boats, cranes, anchors, chains, etc.), but Panzerschiffe casemate guns tend to be faint and indistinct.
- The C-in-C cruisers are nice and pretty cheap too, but there aren't many of them. The C-in-C site doesn't have any photos of the WWI ship models, but this site does.
- GHQ makes some really nice looking models, but they're expensive, and sometimes look overwrought. On the bright side, all that overscale detail work makes them amazingly easy to paint with simple drybrushing techniques, and they look great on the table from typical gamer viewing distances.
If you want to add eye candy to your plain looking models, you can get the C-inC Whaleboats & Launches or WTJ Extra Lifeboats. C-in-C also used to sell tripod masts, but these have been "out of stock" for years. - Ix |
