During last week's Nuclear Renaissance game session, Karl set up a table using most of his newly completed urban terrain. He's been documenting the genesis of this project (almost all using kids toys and playsets acquired for cheap from resale shops) on our club blog over the last few months, so it was a real treat to get it all on the table for a big game.

We played a 3-way Nuclear Renaissance scenario set in our homebrew sci-fi setting. It was a truly epic battle!

Nice, very pleased (for some reason) that your city isn't all grey! :)

All of the parts work together very well!

Thanks folks. That was my terrain on display. I've very deliberately tried to stay away from grey. Partially because of my fondness for Necromunda (notice alot of green in there….) and partly because I wanted even my abandoned buildings to stand out.

I'm also concentrating on building an intact (if sometimes abandoned and run down) urban terrain set. I sometimes get a bit sick of everything being ruined.

Very nice. Definitely giving me ideas for winter projects.

Incredible and inspirational.

Another detail you guys might or might not pick up from the photos: none of these buildings are based. No MDF or tile or anything underneath the model. Since they're based on toys, most of them have sturdy legs and foundations, so no need to do anything else. Makes it easy to create a cohesive battleground on almost any tabletop surface.

Great work and nice to see some of our Ferals shuffling around. Si

The yellow hazmat suited guys in your game are interesting because real yellow hazmat suited guys are on the top of the news today:

Glad to be inspiring!

Thanks Simon,
Truth be told, PatrickWR is a bit nuts for your figs and vehicles. Feral, Kolony and Heavy troopers give a good showing in many of our games.

CorpCommander,
It is a bit sobering. I painted them up a year or so ago as a bit of fun for zombie games and now they're very recognizable for all the wrong reasons.

As for the no-base thing, I've tried to keep the terrain baseless or just a bit of sidewalk so that they will be useful in urban and in desert wasteland settings which are the two themes my terrain is based around. A couple of the buildings were originally made years ago with sandy bases, but as my urban terrain progressed this year, I pulled them all off. Don't miss them at all, though I may be making some more wasteland themed scatter terrain to flavor my desert battlefields.
