Greetings one and all,

With all of the stir created about the "Star Trek: Prelude to Axanar" trailer being released, I was inspired to post some conversions of the FASA ST miniatures, done by yours truly, in the mid '90s.

Awesome stuff.

For anyone who hasn't seen it yet, here's the 21 minute documentary style video Prelude to Axanar.

I just started scratch building pre-motion picture Trek ships, so I'm probably going to have to build both the Xenophon and Ares at some point.

Thanks gents.

Captain G – give me a few days, and I may have some good news for ye. Same for the Ares.

I almost forgot to mention it here but I've mentioned it in other places but I have a friend who can cast up ships like the USS Anton and the Klingon L6 both of whom saw service in the Four Years War.

PM me if you would like more information.

Nice work, Keith! Yes, I think there's going to be a LOT of pre-TOS gaming happening when Axanar is released.

Watched the original episode tonight. Interestingly, besides the names "Garth of Izar" and "Axanar," the only detail offered of Garth's victory is that it "was required reading at the Academy." Never does the episode name Garth's opponents, nor the name of his ship. The only bit of history we get is that Kirk refers to Garth being a "Starship Fleet Captain," and that his actions in some way led to the creation of the Federation, or at least to possibility of mixed human/alien crews (there's a reference to Garth having made it possible for Kirk and Spock to be "brothers"). That's it. We can surmise that Garth used the "Cochrane Deceleration Maneuver" or was at least familiar with it, because it is mentioned in the climactic scene as a "standard maneuver."

So, no reference to Klingons or Romulans or anyone else. No discussion of the type of ships or technology situation (warp, impulse, etc.). No mention of a "Four Years War." All we know is that Garth won a significant battle, got sick at some point, was healed by a peaceful, advanced race, and then went nuts.

Therefore the identity of whom Garth fought, the nature of his actions, the type of ship and so forth are all derived from sources other than the original series. So where are y'all getting this?

FASA.

Parzival,

FASA gleaned various references from TOS episodes. For example, there is a line in the teaser for "Trouble With Tribbles" where a battle, IIRC, "Donnatu V", has occurred between the Klingons and Federations, "Scarcely two decades ago…" as quoted by Spock.

Of course, the internal continuity of TOS is spotty to say the least, but it provided some grounds for a hypothetical war. It helped make the FASA Star Trek universe interesting.

Regards,
Keith F.

Wow. That's some serious interpolation, given that we don't even know how old Garth is. He doesn't look much older than Kirk, but we don't actually know that he's a pure human, nor whether or not his treatment and training by the aliens might have included ant-aging effects. We do assume he's human, but he's not from Earth and he seems to refer to Kirk and the Federation as being a different culture and perhaps race than his own. So the battle at "Donnatu V" could have been part of a greater war, or a merely a brief border dispute, and could have been fought by anyone.

(By the way, years ago I had assumed that Garth was the victor of the Romulan War referred to in Balance of Power. It seemed to have been a very significant conflict requiring brilliant tactics to have won, which in my fancy suited Garth.)

Well, either way, I'm interested in this film. Hope it comes to fruition!
