"Months after staving off a trip to the boneyard, the embattled A-10 Thunderbolt II is headed to the Middle East where it could be used to fight Islamic militants in Iraq and Syria. An Indiana Air National Guard unit that flies the Cold War-era gunships, known as Warthogs, is planning to deploy about 300 airmen and an unknown number of its aircraft to the U.S. Central Command region early next month, says a Sept. 17 news release from the unit. The 122nd Fighter Wing, located at Fort Wayne Air National Guard Base, Ind., has 21 aircraft, though it's uncertain how many will be deploying, a spokesman said Thursday…" Full article here link Amicalement Armand |

The A-10 could do much damage to those long Daesh columns of vehicles. Running along the roads as they mass for another attack … They'd have a harder and more costly time with the sky being darkened by these and other airstikes, in proper numbers … |

Of course, pics of the 1/4 Billion dollar F-22 stealth on the nightly news are a bit sexier, and help to garner support for the over-priced, "air superiority fighter" being pressed into "mud moving" mode, since no one will come up and play……… Gotta hand it to the Public Relations people for coming up with that plan. |

According to people in the USAF ala Mike Hostage about a year ago, the kind of war fought in Iraq right now is a thing of the past and the new type of war is high tech versus peer level competition. Guess someone forgot to send the memo to IS and the billion and one other jihadi groups. |
