So I collected quite a bit of the pocket model sets when they were being made. I have fleets of tie fighters, tie interceptors, star destroyers, x-wings, y-wings, a-wings and assorted rebel capitol ships.

I never played the game much, usually a couple of times a year with some nephews.

I now have a son who is old enough to play. But he doesn't want to play with a few ships at a time like the rules imply. He wants squadrons of fighters and several capitol ships.

The three grid battle board where a few ships exchange fire at a time is not working for me. We have experimented a bit with a ruler to try to add some maneuver element into the game, but that is it. Has anyone developed a home rule set that they would be willing to share or comment on?

Thank you in advance. I am looking for something my son can handle. He can play games like Black Powder in the miniatures area so he is pretty bright for his age, but the game will still have to be fast moving for it to work for us.

You could try any of the games that use a hex grid play area. I like Starmada Admiralty Edition myself, but opinions vary.

Try G.O.B.S.!, which stands for Generic Outlandishly Big Spacefleets. Easy, flexible, fast moving. Download the "Famous Fleets" reference sheet for your Star Wars analogs.

In the original, the ships are too slow, though. Go ahead and increase the Thrust values by 2 for every ship (that's what I've done for the next edition, which is in playtest).

Thank you both for the suggestions.
