size and heft wise, how do the Flashpoint miniatures compare to Peter Pig, QRF or Eureka figures? |
dmebust | 29 Sep 2014 12:31 p.m. PST |
larger and more bulky. I tried to mix as well and gave up the idea. |

Flashpoint are more 18mm. They mix well with BattleFront (same sculptor). Otherwise most gamers think they are too big. That said, I have Peter Pig, Command Decision, Flashpoint, BattleFront and QRf in my armies an no one has ever said anything. |

Peter Pig's Americans are a bit small, but wouldn't that make them excellent for South Koreans? And because Peter Pig's Vietnamese are a bit smaller yet, they are excellent for VC/NVA. |

Hm, maybe I'll grab a few just to check. |

There are new FP minis done by a different sculptor which are more normalish. Yup, that's the word… |

howdy ! ..yes Flashpoint are bigger and bulkier generally than PP , QRF and Eureka …but not impossibly so. I have plenty of all of these and will table them together without shouts of derision. Yes FP and BF are pretty well compatible in size and 'style' especially the US Army, US Marines, VC and NVA.(same original sculptor as Mark says) The FP civilians are smaller and slenderer (if that's a word)and much more compatible with PP, QRF, and Eureka. …so are the Montagnards, Vietnamese 'Popular Forces' and 'Iraqis'*…which were done by different sculptors. (*More suited for AK47 than Vietnam … hahaha!) …While we are here, methinks the 'old' PP (which were bigger) match FP and BF very very well. Next to FP and BF…later PP and QRF US Army make excellent ARVN …. the QRF 'US Special Forces' (in boonie hats) make excellent ARVN special forces/Mike Forces/hatchet Forces ..lead by FP Green Berets ! The size differential works well all of a sudden. …I've just picked up some Rebel Minis (in the sale) to complement the bigger FP 'Ultramodern' Rangers/Delta. The Rebel Minis will deploy as well equipped 'African SF' with FP 'US Advisors' in and upcoming AK47 force..no worries ! In the end ..it's not the size that counts ..it's what you (imaginatively) do with it … so I've been told . Is this useful ? |

@Capt Jimmi: That helps *me* a LOT! Still working on my Vietnam grunts, got the Air almost all sorted out. Just need another 3 slicks, so I can have both Blues and regular Airmobile troops in the same battle. That will give me 10 slicks total, 4 lifters, 4 Blues, one marked Dustoff and one Observer/C&C slick. OK, I also want 4 more Hogs and 4 more Cobras, so I can have 2 of each armament choice. Then it's time for the tracks. |

@ Lion : Fellow Megalomaniac ! ….Your plans sound completely awesome ! With a force like that you can do whatever you want, to whatever table you want (as long as the weather's good). This is one of the best (fun) features of 'Vietnam' gaming as a theatre. … Hoooaaaa! "When the 'Blues go out, they carry more firepower than God" |

Should I mention the 3 Spads, 2x A7s, 2xA6s, and 2x or 3x F4s? Gotta convert one of those Spads to be packing the infamous toilet bomb, and a second one to USMC markings. (Same applies to the F4s. One USAF, one USN, one USMC) The other part of the large number of slicks is because I plan on painting two slicks up as Crandall and Freeman's birds. The Blues don't get those. I figure all the Vietnam guys would appreciate my two objectives: my LZ objective is a basic FoW large base with a termite mound, some grass, and a big red smoke pillar; and the VC/NVA objective is a crashed Loach, because where you see a burning Loach, that's where the enemy is! |

@ Weasel ; glad to be of help ! ? what's your project with these ? …? Ultramodern ? BTW ..am following your rules developments ! Good work ! @Lion ; what scale is your air assets ? IMHO 1/144 (eg.BF Spads?) works well, so does 1/100 (Tamiya via ebay). If you go 1/144 there are CH47's and CH53's also possible (Revell). If I may suggest the one thing you are deficient is a FAC aircraft … AIM makes a O-1 Bird Dog, and I'm pretty sure Old Glory UK makes/sells a Cessna O-2 Skymaster.(both 1/100) …or is this the role of your C&C slick ? |

1/100, since I was able to catch the Tamiya plastics on HLJ. I do technically need to do some work to the F4s, as I bought the Tamiya F-4EJ kit (need to remove the wing bulges and shorten the nose). The Spads are die-cast 1/110. the C&C helo is technically the Artillery spotter. I may snag a FAC bird, but there's no rules for them in Tour of Duty. I'd love to find a 1/100 scale F100 to use as a Fast FAC, but I will definitely get the O2 slow FAC when I order a couple UH1Bs from OGUK. |
