Anyone know of a source for Afghan flags and standards for the 2nd Afghan War? I know what the national flag looks like but would like some information on other standards the Afghans took into battle if its available. I've tried searching online but my google-fu has proven too weak for the task.

Thanks
Dave

Dear Dave,

I have a set of "reasonably authentic" 25mm Afghan flags (no Regulars, however) you can have gratis if you'll E-mail me at TVAG@att.net and request them.

I'll send them to you as a PDF by your E-mail.

TVAG doesn't sell these as we are still hoping to collect enough actual examples in order to produce a line we can stand behind.

Otherwise, Good Luck!

Over the years I've read several books on the NWF and there were only brief mentions of the Pathans (if that's what you meant by Afghans) carrying standards. The few eyewitness accounts described them as triangular in shape, usually being of one color, and some had basic inscriptions on them.

They are very good, like all TVAG flags.

He sent me the pdf last night. Very nice indeed. My Pathan bands will soon be under colors. Thanks again TVAG!!!

You are most welcome, Sir!

Perhaps when we eventually can offer some Pathan/Afghan flags whose authenticity we can stand behind, you might consider trading these in.

Or not….

Now go out there with your newly be-flagged Hindu Kush Homies and make the feringhees shudder!

Dave,

Lots of useful info above, and I congratulate you on receiving Patrick's excellent materials.

It sounds like you are all set, which is great, but in case you haven't seen it before, here's a link to a TMP thread from a couple of years ago dealing with Afghan flags of the Second Afghan War, including those of the Afghan regular army…
