Adler have some cavalry generals in hussar type uniform in their Prussian command pack. I understand that Prussian Generals were allowed to wear regimental uniform if they were the colonel-in-chief for that regiment. Does anyone know of any examples of this for Hussar uniform, in 1815 specifically?

Thanks

In 1815, only two Prussian hussar regiments had a Regiments-Chef:

Pommersches Husaren-Regiment: General-Feldmarschall Fürst Blücher von Wahlstadt (however, the last uniform of his regiment he had worn was the earlier red one, until 1810)

2. Schlesisches Husaren-Regiment: General-Major Graf von Goetzen (being ill since 1807, he was not active but stayed in Breslau in Silesia)

OK, sounds a bit unlikely then, what about von Lutzow?

Or a bit earlier ? From 1812-14?

Same situation for 1812-14 – no Regiments-Chefs of hussars other than Blücher and Goetzen.

Adolph von Lützow was lieutenant-colonel since 6 April 1814, colonel on 3 October 1815, major general as late as 1822. He never was Regiments-Chef of any unit.

I just wondered if he may have worn the hussar uniform of his freikorps.

Von Ziethen is always portrayed in a hussar uniform. While the Prussian army was more regimented and less showy than others, I suspect that leeway was given to generals.

And bear in mind that cavalry brigades were often commanded by Colonels, who would wear regimentals. Von Sohr is portrayed in his full uniform as OC of 3 HR in the painting celebrating his charge at Moeckern. So use some of those "generals" as obersts and charge those damned French.

Lützow of course wore his regimental uniform (6. Ulanen-Regiment). Probably the black hussar style uniform of the cavalry of his former Freikorps. But he also could have worn instead the new uniform of April 1815 (blue lancer coat with czakpa).

Franz Krüger's well know painting of Zieten:

shows him as Regiments-Chef of the 4. Husaren-Regiment, an honour he was given as late as 14 September 1824.

By the way, the Royal order of 23 October 1808 stated:

Clothing of generals: The colonels-in-chief of the regiments ara allowed to wear their regimental uniforms, but in front of their brigades, they will always appear in the generals' uniform. The generals who are adjutants of His Majesty, are free to wear the uniform of a general adjutant.

Bekleidung der Offiziere und des Unterstabes.
[…] I. Generalität.
