"Spike TV is preparing another epic series: 'Deadline' writes that they will turn Kim Stanley Robinson's science fiction Mars saga into RED MARS TV show! To be written by GAME OF THRONE's producer Vince Gerardis, the story will chronicle the settlement and terraforming of the planet Mars through the intensely personal and detailed viewpoints of a wide variety of characters spanning almost two centuries. More utopian than dystopian, the story focuses on egalitarian, sociological, and scientific advances made on Mars, while Earth suffers from overpopulation and ecological disaster." Wow, I enjoyed the novels, but I'm not sure how well it will translate into a mini-series. The original stories have very little 'action' and are more of an extended travelogue of Mars. I will be interested to see what they do with this. |

The books were great. I will watch the series, when possible (living in Europe). |

There is not a link yet my friend. As I said, I pick it up from Hollywood Spy. Amicalement Armand |

Between the lengthy (and quite strained) economic and political blather ( which becomes even lengthier and more strained with each novel) and the practically pornographic elements of the last book, yeah, I can't see how the books are going to be filmed for straight cable. The former stuff is frankly boring, and the latter stuff is just plain bad. But if that gets chopped, you might actually have a more interesting story left over, so who knows? |

Never read it, but Parzival, if it sticks to, "economic and political blather," and, "practically pornographic elements," well, RIGHT THERE is reason enough for directors, writers and producers with their own pet peeve messages while at the same time feeding the, "more boobies," demographic. Toss in soap opera like relationship issues and convoluted plot lines, Mars itself becomes the, "toss a bone to SF," backdrop for the "relationships & preaching," miniseries, not the focus of the endeavor. (Yea, I have an axe to grind with HWood) But – I can see it. |

"while at the same time feeding the, "more boobies," demographic." Hmm. Martian boobies? Dan |

Wow, how did I miss the "pornographic elements"? :) Can't recall anything like that in the books. But there are a few truly epic man-made and natural disasters in the books both on Earth and on Mars that could be seriously cool on film. |
