Veterans: I'm trying to put together a short blog post, to aid future gamers, should they want to find "standard" 28mm FIW figures (and AWI Woodland Indians). link Mostly for the US buyer, generally similar in size to Conquest. I'll put together another list for "heroic" 28mm FIW figures. And one for "small" 28s as well. Not that Conquest or Warlord or BP is in any way a standard. More like actually 28mm tall. "Standard" 28mm FIW Miniature Figures Conquest FIW Range (avail. from Conquest, Warlord) Front Rank FIW Range (available from the Warstore, Triangle?) Perry (AWI) Warriors (ditto?) Crusader (AWI) Woodland Indians (US distributor?) Eureka FIW Packs Wargames Factory AWI Plastics (militia: compliant? natives: soon?) Perry (Plastic) Structures or Accessories? Also, does anyone know where Pulp Figures would "figure" in the 28mm continuum? More "standard" or more "heroic"? |

Old Glory makes some nice ones for their 28mm F&I line. |

I was going to categorize Old Glory as "small" for two reasons: 1) their catalog calls the size "25mm" link 2) this blog post, upon which I'm basing my own sliding scale of 28mm link |

I would add the Kings Mountain Over Mountain Men to that list. I had them specifically sculpted to fit with the period. |

Old Glory is much smaller. It is not a crime to have say Perrys on a table and Old Glory 25s, but if size is the main consideration, it is not an ideal match. |

Conquest, Perry and Eureka are similar in size, Conquest being slightly smaller side-by-side. Front Rank's FIW range is one of their oldest and hence are "true" 25mm (and the same goes for Dixon's 25mm FIW range); they will look slightly smaller than the three above, and very much smaller than Redoubt, Galloping Major, and the other "heroic" ranges. The Blue Moon "Drums along the Mohawk" and Crusader ranges are between Perry and Redoubt in size; the latter are a little chunkier in build. The OG range seems closest to Front Rank in size. There are some other "true" 25mm ranges around, such as Parkfield (UK), RSM, Minifigs and RAFM; Hinchliffe are also in this category, but a little taller (and cruder) than most, especially the Minifigs. One thing I have found – when putting crew figures into canoes and the like, kneeling figures across all these ranges tend to be pretty easy to mix-and-match – Front Rank and Dixon look fine next to Redoubt, for example. |

I just finished painting twelve Knuckleduster Grand River Indians. They paint up very well and fit in nicely with my Conquest Woodland Indians. I also have the Blue Moon "Drums along the Mohawk" Indians and I agree with SM that they are taller and chunkier than the aforementioned C and KD. The BM Indians are cast with a exquisitely sculpted terrain base (just needs painting) that is thicker than most bases and so makes them taller. These are superb sculpts. |

These fit with the "standard" 28mm. Different sculpting style though… link |

Dear List I game primarily in 28mm-30mm and I use all types of figures from latter minifigs tot he magnificent 32mm Staddens and even some "heroic" sized 28mm (try 34mm) and they work fine so long as you don't mix the exrremes in the same unit. This never happens because my regiments are always mounted on a single stand (all 36 of em, 2 officer, 2 color, drummer, fifer, 2 seraeants and 30 privates). You can have huge figured units next to smaller figured one and you never notice. Otto |

Most manufactures call their bigger figs "25mm" even though they are closer to 28mm. The closest to true 25mm, I know of is Ral Partha. "25mm" has become a generic term. I have OG, Perry, FR and Foundry figs in some of my AWI Militia all mixed up (left overs). My Boer War British and Boers often have Foundry and OG on the same base and they look just fine. Unless you are familiar with the poses from each manufacturer you can't tell the difference. On the other end of the scale from Ral Partha is Redoubt figs which are huge, 30mm? So I don't base their figs with other brands and they look just fine on the battlefield. No one notices. |

While OG may categorize their stuff as 25mm I have found they are closer to 28mm and even a bit bigger than the Perry 28mm. My only experience so far is with AWI though. BTW, this is the true link for Old Glory. oldglory25s.com/index.php HTH, |
