… Lot of Clichés.

"Gotham is built around a tantalizing premise: a Batman story without Batman. But an interesting premise doesn't necessarily make for an interesting show.

It's easy to be fooled by the first few minutes of Fox's new drama, since they focus on the most iconic Batman moment of all: the murder of Bruce Wayne's parents. But rather than propelling us forward to the adventures of the Dark Knight, Gotham stays put, focusing on the Gotham City Police Department and the two detectives tasked with solving the murder of the Waynes. And after decades of Hollywood showing us heroes soaring through the sky to fight ever-escalating threats to the universe, there's something refreshing about the idea of taking a street-level look at the people who live in the cracks between those stories, and bringing them back down to Earth.

But if you're hoping for Gotham, which premiered last night on Fox, to be a superheroic version of The Shield or The Wire, you're out of luck. Rather than embracing the complexity of its police procedural side, the series opts for the bombast and broad strokes of superhero cliches, and ends up feeling a bit like Smallville meets Dick Tracy…"

Why so serious?

I think this opening episode crammed way to many 'villans' into the first show , and to be honest <spoiler alert> they started out with the waynes murder..

IMO it should have finished with this in a few seasons time ,been the final scene in the final epeisode, giving us something to wait for , this isnt about Bruce and how he becomes Batman , its about how Gotham is made into needing the Bat.

But Fish is a great villan , have we seen The Joker already , maybe , but it works.

Its cool , and I love Donal Logue as Bullock , and I think he will shine.

Had high hopes for it.
But the second episode was quite boring.
Very silly pair of villains.

Mithmee01 Oct 2014 7:03 p.m. PST

Well they have introduced

The Penguin
The Ridder
Poison Ivy
Cat Women

&

Possibly the Joker (depending on whether that really bad comic will turn into the Joker later)
