The British are preparing to attack the American Navy base at Sacketts Harbor. The attack will take place Friday the 7th of November at 7PM (at Fall In in Lancaster PA that is). The British are gathering their invasion force:

Very nice. Where are Jacob Brown's guys?

I'm finishing up the American's bases this weekend, then I'll post pictures of them. The majority of figures, ships and terrain are painted, just have to finish some details, oars (and a couple guns)for the ships, bases and flags for the figures, and a few buildings. I plan on playtesting at my LGS in mid October so I can tweak it if need be.

Sweet! I like the gunboats.

Very nice project and well done. I particularly like your redoubts/earthworks. At Fall In you say…hmm so tempting to come down from the north in November.

I believe the British gun boat that you picked up at Historicon is from Redoubt. They have several plus troop barges. In fact I thought the boats that you have were from Redoubt. Are they? I have one of their gunboats and some naval figures and very nice they are.

Where did you get that fine looking plan of the harbor from from? It appears to be quite accurate but perhaps reflects the harbor in 1814 re the outer defence line, which was an abbattis at the time of the British/Canadian raid. I would appreciate any info on this map.

I look forward to further updates if you have the time to post them. Thanks for posting this.

Rod,

The gunboats I have done as well as the landing barges full of troops are from Old Glory, the rowers are from Capitan miniatures and Brigade miniatures (as the gunboats don't come with any figures). I still have the small gunboat to finish and yes I think it is a redoubt.

You are correct the map is from 1814 and most of the defences weren't in place in 1813 but it shows the location of the ones that were pretty good. I found it on this website:

Rod,
If you do decide to come let me know and I'll save you a seat in the game. You can command the…Canadians of course!!

Here's more British naval power. The HMS Beresford

Thank you kindly for the invite and I will seriously consider it (I will endeavour to see if at least one of my group will come share costs etc re the eight hour drive).

Duh! I just checked and realized my gunboat is Old Glory too. As the complete Redoubt gunboat and crew plus guns was a bit expensive for me (UK postage too), I used the OG one and manned it with OG, Redoubt and Brigade Games sailors and marines. The OG gunboat and especially the long boat are really good value.

Also, good value is the small row boat and raft from Ainsty Castings. I used five of the boats for my Queenston Heights game about a year ago. They are good value at 6 pounds each and come with a mast. Here is a photo from the site:

HMS Beresford looks ready for action. I really like the way you made the furled sails. How was it done and where did you get the model?
Cheers, Rod

Hi Eric,
Yes indeed, Historicon is definitely beckoning me.

Rod,

The Beresford is really the "American Cutter" from Old Glory's gunboats and galleys section. It even comes with sweeps and holes in the hull for them so its perfect for my needs. The carronades and cannons are from laser dream works. The crew is from OG but the Captain is from Redoubt.

The furled sails are some real thin tea stained muslin that my wife had in her abundant fabric collection. I just cut pieces to size and then tied them with heavy thread used in jewelery making. I was quite pleased with how they turned out, plus it was pretty easy to do.

I have a couple of Ainsty's pirate ships but will have to get a couple of their small boats as well it seems. You are right they would fit right in on "the lakes".
