Underestimating ancient cities is not unusual. It's interesting to note that Troy was far bigger than its citadel: the hill at Hissarlik was at first thought to encompass the whole city/cities. As noted above, the outlying areas were mostly built of perishable materials & thus easily missed by archaeologists. |

indeed quite an interesting project. I wonder what might help if they were to try sorting all of it through ages , seeing where Ankhor begun and how wide it was then which parts expanded and/or collapsed aswell as in what order it occured. May be they can already tell how many successive buit was on at each spoted aeras and when to date each layer . That would be awesome. |
