…Islamic State Targets In Syria. "The United States and partner nations are carrying out the first air strikes against Islamic State targets in Syria, the Pentagon said on Monday, in ongoing operations that mark the opening of a new, far more complicated front in a battle against the militants. "I can confirm that U.S. military and partner nation forces are undertaking military action against (Islamic State) terrorists in Syria using a mix of fighter, bomber and Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles," Rear Admiral John Kirby, Pentagon press secretary, said in a statement. "Given that these operations are ongoing, we are not in a position to provide additional details at this time."…" Full article here link Amicalement Armand |

The government of the Syrian Arab Republic states that we advised them the strikes were coming, before we bombed targets in their country. That was unusually polite of us. Maybe we're learning. It's a dismally slow process. |

That was unusually polite of us. It's good cause if the Syrian Government isn't involved, then it continues to tear down the international order based on nation states. It would basically gives the Russians and anyone else a blank cheque to do as they please. |

Bahrain sortied two aicraft. It is unclear if they dropped any ordnance. Not sure how many the others sortied, other than Qatar, which apparently didn't send any aircraft to assist. |

Qatar isn't going to bomb their own jihadis. They did send Mirages over Libya though. |

Who Are The 'Arab Allies' Assisting The U.S. in Attacking The Islamic State "Barack Obama had insisted on a visible coalition being formed with Sunni Arab states before expanding operations into Syria Jordan became the first US ally to confirm its forces had taken part in attacks against Isis in Syria. Washington said Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain had also contributed forces, with Qatari assets playing a support role. It was not immediately clear which, if any of the Arab air forces sent their jets over the skies of northern Syria, but ahead of the strikes Riyadh had agreed to spearhead the assault on Isis, which it views as a mortal threat to its own borders…"

Will The U.S. Coalition Of Persian Gulf Nations Against The Islamic State Hold Together? "The four Persian Gulf nations whose warplanes flew in concert with U.S. jets over Syria this week have spent the past few years acting with far less harmony, riven by divergent approaches to address the growth of Islamist political movements in the Arab world. The differences among the countries have grown so stark and acrimonious that earlier this year, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain withdrew their ambassadors from Qatar, which has funded Islamists across the region to the consternation of the other three nations. In the months that followed, they have continued to wage a proxy war of sorts in Egypt and Libya, where the UAE recently conducted airstrikes against rebels backed by Qatar. Qatar's neighbors accused it of bankrolling terrorists. Qataris accused their neighbors of supporting strongmen who subvert the will of the people…"
