link My continuing quest to finish a 5 battalion British Brigade for the AWI in 28mm this year continues with the 40th Regt of Foot. Rather than just post pics of the unit I have done the post in my Box to Table style detailing the painting and basing methods. Hope its of use / inspiration for some. Fine looking troops! I like the extra deep base to protect the bayonets. |

I like the big stands too. I did big stand mounting for my 15mm ACW, to protect them, and to be able to arrange them in more fluid, dioramic-looking positions. Could you expand here on your big-stands [your mounting philosophy]? |

Hi FlyXwire, you guys have guessed it really, my earlier metal 28mm British we based on standard bases however when I came to do the plastic stuff I wanted to give the muskets a bit more protection and decided to give them a bit of extra depth, I had loads of 60 x 40 bases lying round and turned them end on. If you look back through the blog at the post on the 33rd Foot they are on the old style 40 mm deep bases. The lad from our group who did our Americans and Hesse troops has always based his on deep bases, again there is an AWI game write up on the blog with lots of pics. I have to say I have quite grown to like the deeper bases, most of the other stuff (WW2, SCW, EotD) I'm doing at the moment are singly based but I plan to get cracking on my Ancient stuff next year so I might try it on them. I never seem to be able to achieve such stunning results with the black undercoat technique, especially on red uniforms. You've pulled it off nicely! |

I particularly like the colours (flags); too many wargamers have them being waved about casually on the equivalent of ECW pikestaffs – these guys look as though they are carrying the real thing, which was quite difficult to control when fully unfurled. |

Brilliant stuff, Ken. Totally agree with SM, even though I'm one of his culprit war gamers! |

Thanks to everyone for the kind comments, I hope these tutorials are useful for some, it was always my idea to inspire and inform with the blog, in the same way that others have, for me, with their blogs. Thanks again. Regards, Ken http:/ yarkshiregamer.blogspot.co.uk |
