So, Euro Militaire (Folkestone 20/21 Sept) is a military modelling show, not a wargames event but I went along to have a look, and to contribute some of my flats to a big display the British Flat Figure Society

picture

My figures are primarily intended for game play so are not as fine as some of the dedicated painter flats … but they pass muster and add diversity.

Anyway, no wargames in process or big battle displays at this show (a pity from my point of view but all the non -trade space is taken up with painting demos and competitions …) …

But you'd find plenty of stuff if you were a 20mm WWII diehard (everything under the sun) … otherwise an amazing array of large scale military figures and military vehicle models.

The paint work on most of the exhibits is breath-taking (way beyond my imaginings) … but anyway, my guess is you like to see some pictures of the flats …

So an interesting day off for me (just figures, everywhere) but I was made very welcome and the BFFS display was a joy to be a part of.

The BFFS* aim to up the visibility and availability of classic flat figures so more can enjoy the unique charm of this traditional figure type.

The website (link above) is full of info and pictures.

(flat figure on a painted backdrop: not all the exhibits were military … this one greatly amused me – and I now have an image to post when the next Ultramodern politics row breaks out wink!)

Wow, those are some beautifully painted figures.

Thanks, oldbob …

I have to admit that to get all my boxes ticked they need to be lined up on a battlefield rather than plugged onto a picture board, but I learned a lot from my visit and was happy to put my stuff into the exhibition.

Great write up thanks for sharing. This is exactly the kind of convention I'd like to attend with my Wooden Wars models and bridge the gap between display and gaming with Flats.

cheers
