…but I guess there will be no revolution this time ;) link The ship is going for hull repair, if everything is going accordance to the plan, Aurora will be back in 2015, otherwise the repairs can continue well into 2016. More pics here: link |

Those were some pretty cool photos. So awesome seeing an old ship moving around a modern world. |

Impressive. She looks to have a nice coat of paint--being well maintained despite all the stress and confusion of the past 20 years. |

Several years ago there was an attempt to move it from the Navy (where she still belongs) to museum equipment. However, the reaction was so fierce, that they had reversed the status. It was well maintained most of the time, the only thing that the people still missing is removal of old engines in 1933 (they were completely worn out) and replacement of the hull below the waterline, carried on during repairs in 80s. The ship is 114 years old, and it is the only one of its kind we have in Russia… |

She's a lovely ship. I'm glad that she's being well maintained. |

The Russians are certainly keeping him in better condition than we are with the USS Olympia. Jim P.S. Russian Navy uses the masculine to refer to its ships, not the feminine that US uses. |

You're right, ship is "he", same with "cruiser", however if you just use the name ("Aurora") as it is the name of dawn goddess, then it is "she" ;) |

I've always had a distinct and unique feeling of connection with the Aurora. She fired the gun that signaled the start of the October Revolution, which, in turn, led my great-grandfather to leave Russia and come to this country before the week was over. |

There are so few ships of that era around. It is good to see one in such great shape! |

Wow! The Aurora is on my 'must see' list. |

It looks in better nick than the rest of their navy. It could mean trouble if they deploy her to the Baltic! |

Here are my two pictures from my visit to St.Petersburg in February 2006. She was a very beautiful ship and we wandered all over her and were almost the only people on board. |

Cool – the boardgame Fire in the East has a counter for the ship, which can fire defensively in support of Leningrad. Read in one sailor's memoirs that the primary function of the Baltic Fleet's ships which were trapped in Leningrad, including the Aurora, was to run their generators to serve as an auxiliary power supply for the city. |
