Apparently has passed away: link I never met him (though he did send me some arrow quivers once), and I know things ended here on TMP on a bad note, but he was a major contributor to WAB. Condolences to any family he might have had. |

Wow! That's too bad. I actually liked him here on TMP. Don't know exactly what went wrong, but condolences all the same! |

Indeed – a prolific poster with a clearly articulated world view. He added a lot of value to this site. |

I am sad to hear this. I have worked with Allen in the past. He was a very intelligent man and passionate about the hobby. No matter how people viewed him in the hobby and at TMP, his contributions will be missed. RIP Allen. I am glad we could reconnect again after all of these years. |

Terrible news. I'm pretty sure he was a vet too, I think an old tanker. My condolences to his family. RIP Allen |

If this is true, this is too bad. Allen and I had some disagreements that we settled in privates messages. My condolences to his family. He was a one stop shop on anything Punic Wars related. |

A major light in the hobby has gone out. He was a good man and this is terribly sad news to hear. |

I liked him. Despite his sometimes angry tone when responding to posts, he would often provide very good historical insight. |

An interesting character here on TMP. I always enjoyed reading his posts whether I agreed with them or not. My condolences to his family and friends. |

Very sad to hear that – obviously never met him, but we did swap a couple of emails. I missed him when he left TMP. |

Sad news. I was only thinking last week how much I missed him on TMP. His sincere interest in the hobby and in Ancients wargaming in particular were very welcome. The Colonel |

Sad news indeed. I got to know Allen and his late wife Nancy thru TMP, later, Frothers and LAF. A fountain of information. A good man. I will miss him. Rest easy, old Soldier. |

That is terrible news, he wasn't even that old. I greatly enjoyed his insights into the Cold War era Red Army and his stories about the fun and games at the NTC and was fortunate enough to meet him in the UK a few years back. |

Aw, damn. That's too bad. We became good friends here…until we were not. I regret that we could not reconcile. Both too stubborn, I guess. |

That is sad news. He was one of the big characters here when I joined. He always had interesting things to say and was much missed when he left. |

Most unfortunate. I read his articles in WSS on modern war, he had a lot of knowledge. I also enjoyed his posts here. Sad to hear this. |

Sad to hear it. He was one of my favorites here on TMP, even when he was grumpy. Learned a lot from him and I think he brought a lot of knowledge to the site. RIP Allen. |

Yes I liked him … met him at a Society of Ancients Conference … Very well informed and, shall we say, more than capable of asserting his position. Having contributed a good deal of knowledge to WRG, he was influential in the rolling out of Warhammer Ancient Battles and he will be much missed. RIP Allen E Curtis Phil Steele |

That is verysad news. He and I fell out regularly over all sorts of daft stuff, but we'd always make up again. I was only speaking to him about ten days ago about an army he was building up for his tweleve year old son, Zeke. What a terrible thing for his young kids to have to experience, especially with his wife, their Mum, dying last year. Allen was full of great knowledge and he and I would spend a lot of time sharing some heavy duty military history stuff. The silly old sod seemed to have a very sad self-destruct button when it came to friendships, as lots of people have testified to. After each bust up we'd leave it a while and then rather sheepishly get back in touch and start over where we left off. It made for an odd relationship, but I always considered him a friend, even when he had put himself off-limits. This is really a very sad day indeed. Rich |

I never met Allen but over the last few years, we had become firm friends online, particularly since the death of his first wife, Nancy. I was stunned when his new wife Victoria contacted me last week with the news. We'll be running an obit in MWBG379 and I'm glad that, amongst others, WSS editor Guy Bowers has kindly agreed to add his thoughts to the piece. I miss his grumpy humour already. My heart goes out to his kids and Victoria. Henry |

At times, he would answer an inquiry with a snarky comment. At other times he could be quite informative and helpful. My personal interactions (via this forum) were always good. Many blessings for his friends and family. |

Really very sad and shocked to hear the news that Allen has passed away. He had only in the last few weeks written me a brief piece on Republican Roman dress and organisation. I contacted him from time to time for historical research and his opinion which he always gave freely and generously. He was always the man to go to for information as he really was a fountain of knowledge. In an email he told me he might not be around to see my new Romans and I thought it was Allen and his sense of humour about the lengthy release dates. I had no idea he was being serious. My condolences to his family and friends, I liked him very much. Steve. |

I am saddened by this also. Like John and Bill, I was friends with Allen, until we were not… We never got the chance to try a make up, but I also observed his self-destruct button when it came to friendships. He was an Officer in the US Army, (Captain if I am correct), and was in 5/33 AR, 194th Armd BDE, Ft. Knox KY, in the early 80's, (right next door to me)…. Here's wishing the best for his kids…. |

I'm so sorry to learn that such a knowledgeable member of our hobby has passed away. I was fortunate enough to meet Allen once at a con in LA. He was a great guy. We traded figures a couple times too, and he was always generous with his trades. |

RIP Allen and sympathies to his family. I knew him only from his many posts on TMP years ago, and then he left. I wish he would have resolved whatever it was that kept him from returning. He was always interesting to read. |
