Remembering Marx WOW Figures

If you were a kid in the 1960s who loved history and toy soldiers, you probably had a WOW figure!

What were the colour of US gatling gun carriages. I've seen them painted natural wood colour and I am sure I seen some painted like a light blue. I have one for my 54mm US cavalry.

Any info much appreciated.

What era? Charles Johnson Post was an eyewitness to the Spanish-American War, and in his paintings, they're a dark olive. Look the second image from the bottom on this page:

Indian Plains Wars, but anything from fighting the Apaches to just simple wild west/raiding Mexicans (Wild Bunch)

I do however, want it to be realistic.

Artillery olive. The light blue was probably due to enthusiastic but unknowledgeable Park Service personnel.

The model 1895 Gatling with armoured carriage, as used in the SAW, was the first version to be painted olive green. from what I've seen online, previous models seem to have been a natural wood shade.

Not sure where you're seeing this online, but by US Army regulation all wood ordnance material was to be painted artillery olive. Unpainted wood has a very short service life.

I did an extensive online search for images of Gatlings when researching the correct colour to paint my Old Glory SAW models for the Mexican Revolution, and all the photos of the real thing in the hands of museums and re-enactors showed them in a light brown colour. Whether this is natural wood or paint I don't know.

When I finally did find an excellent series of close-ups of the '95 model the accompanying text specifically stated that it was the first version painted olive green.

Thanks for all the replies. Think I'll paint them simple wood colour.
