Agreed! What rules are you using?

Gen Phred20 Sep 2014 2:24 p.m. PST

The rules are a slightly modified version of Die Kriegskunst. DK is a Seven Years War wargaming rules set based on the General de Brigade system.

Have to love those Musketeer Miniatures. The flags look great too, where did you get them from? I have a question about some of the pics, what does the "tombstone" represent in the game? Saw it on a few units.

Thanks.

Not sure where the flags come from(not my fig's)but I will try and find out.

The tombstones are mounted on plastic casualty discs to show the loses of the unit.

Hi.

Rodger has asked me to reply as this GNW collection is mine, and as I also organised the game, I am probably best placed to provide a short summary of what is going on.

As redmist1122 correctly points out, the figures are mainly Musketeer Miniatures, although I have also purchased Front Rank and Ebor Miniatures. You can see these if you follow the link at the top of this page to Rodger's blog – the Russian Cavalry is all Ebor.

I have organised my infantry into units of 16 figures, in 4 stands of 4. Cavalry is also 4 stands, but can be combined to make a a 16 figure unit if necessary. I adopted this organisation to use Black Powder as a ruleset, but came to the realisation that unless I have a much larger collection, BP doesn't work that well with a small number of units.

I had considered Beneath the Lily Banners, but haven't played them yet. This led me onto DKK, which is General De Brigade for SYW, of which I have a large collection. Knowing the rules well, I used them for our GNW game with the following tweaks;

* Swedish Infantry is rated Prussian Infantry
* Russian Infantry remains the same
* Swedes get a +2 modifier for the first round of melee if charging
* Infantry with pikes included get a +2 modifier if fighting Cavalry

Qualitively, all Swedish Line Infantry and Cavalry were rated as veteran. Russians as line (all per the DKK rating system).

Overall, the game (for a first time effort with the rules for GNW) worked better than expected. The Swedes got shot up as they advanced, but once they charged in proved difficult to stop.

Finally, the gravestones were made by me. The base counters, which number 1-10, were bought from Litko. The gravestones were purchased from someone on ebay UK, although you could also used the ones from Renedra.
