The Waterloo Compagnion (amoung others) lists the french 11th cavalry division under as present at Ligny. Does anyone know where it was positioned at Ligny, attached to another Corps and if it saw any action? Thanks a lot in advance! |

Thought they were at Quarte Bras on the 16th of June under General Kellermann. M aka WR |

Yes, L'Heritier was with Ney and the left wing. Guiton's brigade were the unit that charged with Kellerman towards the crossroads, taking the color of the 69th Foot. The 11th Cuirassier, in Guitons brigade, were without cuirasse, I believe. They were with the 8th Cuirassier. The other brigade of the division, which was probably near Frasnes, in rear of the French battle line, was composed of the 2nd and 7th Dragoons. |

Waterloo Companion, p63, definitely says 11th Cav Div at Quatre Bras, no mention of Ligny……is there an error somewhere else, if so I cannot find it? |

Deadhead, Agree with you. A quick examination of my copy shows nothing other than statements concerning 11th Division at Quatre Bras and Waterloo. Perhaps Nick can give us the page reference? Or maybe he is referring to a book other than Mark Adkins' work? Mollinary |

Considering the 8th Cuirassiers were part of the Division. That they were credited with taking the King's Colour of the 69th, and Nafziger OOB file number 815FBD has the division listed. I would think they were at Quatre Bras, wouldn't you? Paul :) |

Suspect they did at least drop in, in passing. I have heard folk dismiss Adkin as "riddled with errors" was, I think, the phrase once used here, but not much wrong I think. White overalls for Guards in Hougoumont we have discussed and must allow, as understandable. p237 Faveau's cuirass (the famous one with the hole front and back) is actually that of a carabinier. Can't say I have spotted anything else wrong! |

Yup! Faveau was a trooper in the 2nd Carabiniers. But then again Adkin's book is a cracker, so much so that I have ordered the revised edition (it's release date has been put back to 'unknown'). Paul :) |

Sorry, mistake on my part. I must have gotten something horribly messed up. Probably because I was also looking at the 7th infantry division. Even more so thank you very much for your help sorting out my mistake! |
