I don't see a specific Perry FIW range. Are people using stuff in the AW30 to AW36 range (Indians and Frontiersmen)? link I'm not sure which of the other AWI metal figures could be used for FIW. Rangers? Grenadiers? Firing Line in Hunting Shirts? Northern Militia? Highlanders? British Light Infantry? Would the main difference be uniform colors? Would any of the French figures work? I thought they had an upgrade/change after the losses of the SYW. In plastics, would something like AW200 or AW250 be too recognizably AWI? link link I see a couple of sprues and structures in the plastic accessories that look useable as well (B39 & B40, B33 & 34, B12, RPB1). I'm not as up on 18th C. uniforms (or buildings) as I once might have been. Are people using/converting/modifying the Perry AWI ranges and painting them for the FIW/SYW/WOC, or did I somehow miss a page? |

Yes, I use those exact packs for the FIW. I think the Perry Woodland Indians are really good. The two wars were only separated by about 20 years so I don't appearance of the Indians would have changed that much. I do not think the French would work as the uniforms changed from the Seven Years War but I find some of us war gamers are pretty flexible. |

Grenadiers, no. The cap is totally wrong. In the FIW, it is a cloth miter cap, and in the AWI it is a bearskin. Likewise, the cut of the coat is much baggier in the FIW and the cut of the waistcoat is wrong. More major differences in bags, belts, collars, etc. Same with the line infantry. Highlanders have cut of coat problems too. Loght infntry would be very different also. As for rangers, militia or Indians, sure. Why not? French would be totally different too. Merely wearing a tricorne hat does not make them equal. There are a lot of very good manufacturers who make appropriate FIW uniformed figures. Why hack up Perry figures? |

And if you want to be a real stickler for details, the hunting jackets on those Perry riflemen didn't exist during the FIW. Old Glory has a bunch of FIW models with proper uniforms. |

Look at this blog. He uses several Perry packs. I think he used Jaegers for French? I like the way the turned out. link |

Why not try some of the Eureka FIW figures which are supposed to be "Perry Compatible " if you want FIW figures that have a Perry look? |

You can look at the Over Mountain Men from Kings Mountain as woodsmen, trappers and Couer De Bois. The seperate heads let you make almost any type of backwoodsmen you can think of. kingsmtminis.com/catalog |

I would agree that it sounds odd to begin converting Perry AWI figures when there are plenty of FIW ranges on the market. Unless you want to double up usage, I suppose. |

Conquest Miniatures and Galloping Major are two ranges that focus specifically on the FIW and both have very nice figure ranges that are worth a look. |

The Indians were more commonly armed with muskets in the AWI, instead of bow-and-arrow – and even the odd spear – in the FIW. Redoubt does a truly excellent range of Indians in their own FIW range, with a variety of well-posed packs of scouts, variously armed war parties, men carrying torches, and a man leading three female captives. The intial set of civilians are equally good. Sadly, they then changed sculptors and the Militia, Rangers and early British/French regulars are often referred to as "shinless wonders" – a British joke – because of their short legs and less accurate chubby anatomy (to be completely fair, they now have a third sculptor who is almost up to the first man's standard). These Redoubt figures are large by comparison to Perry, Conquest etc, (over 30mm) but a match for Galloping Major; that said, the kneeling figures are compatible with all of the FIW ranges out there, even the "true" 25mm Dixon and Front Rank kneeling figures. |
