So I've decided to run a small, friendly FOW tourney for Adepticon 2015 in the style of 40K Combat Patrol. That means I need more terrain….and quick! Let's start with a WIP post on the 15mm Lumber Camp terrain set. From the left, it's a small bunkhouse, the mill, and a maintenance shed. Not pictured (because they were half finished at the time) are the log and lumber pile linear obstacles. All that's left is a quick ink weathering of the exterior wood surfaces, some spot painting (mostly the tin roofs and bases), and flocking.

I really like that people can be bothered to make something like this, I make stuff for my Veit-nam games, its not that difficult and cheaper.Would like to see them when they are finished

Yes, this is nice. Such buildings are within most people's ability to scratch build but as HH says, not a lot can be bothered.

No critique…Great job!

Lordgoober18 Sep 2014 6:31 p.m. PST

when are you trying to run this friendly? I'm not doing Nationals this year because I'm almost certainly only there for the weekend.

Yourbitterpill18 Sep 2014 8:33 p.m. PST

Thanks all.

@LordGoober: I put in for Friday during the day but it depends on table availability, we'll see how it turns out when reg is finalized.\

Some really nice detailing there, the battlefield is going to look really nice.

I took a little break from making terrain to finish up some minis. I'd always wanted to add some assault guns to the Soviet Tankovy Battalion I finished a couple years ago but have been unwilling to spend the cash to buy them. Recently, I came across a good deal and bought them….then promptly realized I had lost the paint color chart I used for the prior minis! Instead I decided to try my luck at whitewash winter camo for the first time.

Wow, I think they look awesome! Nicely done, and after reading your "How-to," also very efficiently done.

The lumber camp is finally complete and I'm pretty pleased with the results considering the amount of time it took. The entire complex, if not spread out, occupies around 2 sq. ft. – somewhere between a 1/4" and 1/3" of a table space. Considering it really only needs some roads and large tracts of woods, the size is "just right" for FOW. This lumber camp will be used to represent the Karelia Region of Finland/Russia in the FOW: Recon In Force tournament for Adepticon 2015.

A small bit of North Africa terrain – a mosque and walled courtyard – to add to my earlier NA terrain efforts. More pics and info below:

This terrain is just insanely good. I love scratch built stuff and the paint job is so crisp. I feel like getting some plasticard right now!

Deadone21 Jan 2015 5:46 p.m. PST

Dang that's some sweet terrain. Love it all.

Yugoslavian House Conversion. So I'm sure the first question is "why Yugoslavia?"….and the simple answer is because it was an easy conversion. Crescent Root's (now out of production) resin buildings were the first 15mm buildings I had purchased years ago and, while they're nice, straight out of the box they're rather odd-looking – as if they don't really fit any particular nation or architectural style.

Hey your all set for a "Kelly's Heroes" scenario now! ;)

Love the conversions. I may have to steal that idea to make some of my Battlefront houses more usable in southern theaters!

Cheers,
VB

Vineyards make excellent, useful terrain features in all kinds of different games. They limit maneuverability, provide concealment for infantry, and nicely fill table space. I'll show you how to build realistic vineyards that are easy to assemble.

While I don't really need more North African style buildings, I just can't seem to stop building them. I found a few old offcuts of cork flooring tile and decided to try my hand at building some cork terrain. The basis of these buildings are Matakishi's amazing cork buildings, specifically his Afghan Buildings.

I have a love-hate relationship with the Battlefront Plowed Fields – I love how awesome they are and they're useful in many more games outside of Flames of War, but I hate the cost. $20 USD-something should get you more than two small rectangular fields. So I decided to try making my own and the results are awesome.

thumbs up

Some good stuff here!

A quick post for today, nothing in-depth. I've been struggling with urban roads since I started the 15mm terrain project and ran across someone mentioning using faux patterned leather as stand-ins for cobblestone roads. Oddly, we had about 3 yards of good quality faux leather we'd ordered about 6 years ago for a home decorating project that never got done – bingo.

Another quick update for today, this time I've done up some snow-covered woods using after-Christmas clearance trees and felt fabric. More pics and info at the link below:

By the 1930s, much of Europe was criss-crossed with a wide array of telegraph and telephone overhead wires.Usually located alongside roads and rails, often at the edges of cultivated fields, communication line poles quickly became rocky and overgrown. As such, they make great linear obstacles that provide useful concealment to infantry and AFVs alike.

In an attempt to add more Western European terrain, I went back and re-did the French Chateau I'd painted back in August. I gave it a larger base of 2mm MDF and built it up with successive layers. I then smoothed everything out some spackle and glue mixture. I then added stucco walls made from basswood strips. The gate is large basswood rod cut to size, with shingles made from thin cardboard, and gate doors from an HO scale factory doors. I used Milliput to sculpt a longer driveway and walkway leading to a Faller HO scale greenhouse.
