Alec Brown at Front Rank has announced new Reinforcement Packs of Napoleonic Highlanders: link And of course they look wonderful, because it's Front Rank! |

Fully aqree but also it is because, consistently, their reinforcement packs are much better proportioned than their traditional output. Great castings, but a little bit of the Hobbit about them. Also accept that looking down on a tabletop, that may be the best way to produce them………but these are great. I almost expected one standard bearer to be instead flying a placard saying YES! |

I don't have any British, but Front Rank is doing a great job! |

Bought the new Light bobs and they painted up great. Lots of character and you can easily use them for skirmish or battalion gaming (they went battalion in my case). Highly recommended! Larry |

Do these painted figures project history? The Gordon officers are all in Kilts. But the Black Watch officers are in grey overalls. Does this actually reflect early Peninsula (kilts), and Waterloo (overalls)? GdeP |

Does this actually reflect early Peninsula (kilts), and Waterloo (overalls)? I don't know, but the ones in overalls make me think I can do the Highland Light Infantry with a simple head swap. Although I must admit I am loathe to cut into such excellent figures. |

Wow, they are really nice – and yes, great timing! |

Yes perfect timing! As an Englishman who loves Scotland, I hope we can stay together but this isn't the place for politics. I painted the figures you see on the Front Rank website, so in response to GdeP, the Gordons are in full dress (kilts), Black Watch in campaign dress (trousers). I'm not a real expert, so if you have info on who wore what and when, it would be gratefully received. I'm unclear whether full dress was ever worn on campaign or just reserved for the parade ground. And yes they're excellent figures! |

There were three regiments in kilts at Waterloo. |

I'm unclear whether full dress was ever worn on campaign or just reserved for the parade ground. My impression is that the three "kilted" regiments noted by Widowson (42nd, 79th, 92nd) wore kilts into the Peninsula and kept them as long as possible, but over years of campaigning this became more and more difficult. Some guys re-cut the kilts into pants ("trews"), but even these wore out eventually. It was a slow descent into anarchy, occasionally reversed by the (infrequent) arrival of new stuff from home. Haythornethwaite & Chappell's "Uniforms of the Peninsular War 1807-1814" shows a particularly haggard member of the 92nd in 1814 (plate 10). Brown locally-sourced trousers, a very "plucked" bonnet, espadrilles. I wonder if, having done Highland command in campaign, he will now do troops in the same style? |

I think Front Rank figures are a fine collection and these are worthy additions for ones British forces, however, I wish they bring out Baden troops for the 1809 onwards…surely it wont take much to reduce the horse hair plum on their existing Bavarian Raupenhaulms? :( I keep wishing…. |

Richard Abbott, really beautiful painting! As an aside, did you not want to paint the ivory on the bagpipes? link Now, as a Scotsman who loves England, I'm off to vote in the Independence Referendum. Cheers, Michael |
