The DAs are a new interest (thank SAGA for that).

Where in TMP do they dwell? Ancients? Medieval?
Both? Clearly they don't have their own board.

Dare I suggest one?

I just cross-posted a question about Dracos, so apologies if I or both boards are wrong.

I think generally the Dark Ages are tossed into the Medieval section. Many scholars call it the early medieval period, and that is where most of the SAGA players hang out I think. I am assuming you are talking about the Viking Age? I guess it depends exactly on when you start counting.

I agree with James: when I've posted Viking era questions, I go with Medieval.

One of the classic schemes for organizing history would have a three way split: Ancient History is everything up to the fall of the Western Roman Empire in 476, Medieval runs from then until the fall of Constantinople to the Turks in 1453, and everything since is Modern.

That said, I see manufacturers list Vikings and other, early Medieval figures under the heading of Ancients, so the question is certainly a valid one, and having a Dark Ages or Early Medieval Board is a viable approach.

That's a good idea. I've suggested it.

Most of it tends to be on Medieval, but sometime it crops up in Ancients as well.

Q: Where in TMP do they dwell?
A: Medieval

The concept of the Dark Ages came about in the Renaissance. Basically Renaissance writers liked the ancient world but hated the period that came before their own and saddled it with such a bad reputation.

Sir Walter is correct. That triple path(ancient, medieval, mopdern) Grelbar describes is one of the ruts our minds now run in, however unhistorical it may be. The renaissance humanists thought the great cathedrals were barbaric, and so called them Gothic -- though to my mind Chartres overshadows anything the renaissance produced.

The "dark ages" term doesn't exist, historically, any more. The modern term is early medieval.

If you check the left hand panel on this page:

It should be pretty clear that on TMP Ancients stretches up to 500 AD, and Medieval from 500 AD onwards.

I have previously suggested that year ranges should be added to the names of the ancient and medieval boards, as they have been added for modern and ultramodern boards.

As for dracos, they were used both before and after 500 AD, so possibly relevant to both boards.
