I have one of those mats with the intention of making some fields like this. Its useful to see how he did it. Thanks.

I prefer the "teddy bear fur" cloth versions as the troops don't "hover" on them.

Still these don't look too bad and I'm always a fan of cheap and easy…

Nice! I very much like this idea.

I have used the astro turf for swamps, wheat fields may be another option. I have plenty of the stuff.

If you don't want your troops to hover on the tops of the plants, cut the plastic turf into square sections and place them over a piece of mud-brown corduroy. The corduroy marks the boundaries of the field, so you can just move the squares of crops out of the way as the troops move through, and move them back when the troops leave. The miniatures look like they're standing on a tilled field wherever they're on brown corduroy.

Or, if you want to go overboard – make more squares of flattened wheat plants. Everywhere miniature regiments move across the field, replace the standing wheat with flattened wheat. Your troops will leave tracks where they've marched across your wheat fields.

PS: No, I haven't done this. It sounds like too much work to me. I just cut up some faux fur and called it done. grin

It works, but it is pretty thick wheat.

I personally think that particular material works better for corn fields.

For wheat I prefer golden Teddy Bear fur or the other type of door mat material:

Or is this one of those British and Americans use different words for the same things type of situations?

Teddy bear fur is best of all.
