We had a 4 player game using the Big CoC rules last month. The scenario involved a couple of platoons of Australians and 2 Matildas trying to pry the Japs off a grassy slope.
I tried to create a bit more balanced game by having the Jap players roll to reduce the strength of their sections by 2 to 5 men each. This still left them with 4 sections bigger than the 3 Australian ones. Combined with my dismal dice and Jim's incredibly lethal rolls meant that my Aussies would once again fail miserably.

The Japs had 2 platoons (with a lt mortar section each), and elected to have a MMG nest and a useless 37mm ATG.

I really like the way you have done the terrain.

Great looking table! I've got to get busy on my Pacific project….among others.
What did you use for ground cover? Looks awesome.

Very well put together, looks very impressive, hope you had fun, even if the dice were not in your favour this time.

Thanks for this. I agree, nice looking terrain and miniatures. The dice rolling sounds like it was tough going, though! An tanks … they always let you down!

I'm interested in how others treat the Japs in the SW Pacific in late 42 through the end of the war period.
Their big sections would seem to be cut down to half strength perhaps and just how much ammo is available for those light mortars?
Anyone else working on later war Japanese for skirmish gaming?

Microbiggie – I am doing Aussies vs Japanese CoC and tinkering with the idea of reducing the Japanese Force Morale, giving them a lower Platoon Force Rating* and restricting/reducing the Support List to reflect the cut off of re-enforcements and supply.

Thus they could have a log of log bunkers, but not so many tanks etc.

*Maybe increase the Force Rating so that the Japanese find it harder to get any support from the lists, as a lower force rating would give them more.

Shelldrake, Agree.
Support list should be entrenchments, MMGs, and cheap snipers that are incapable of relocation and hit at a degraded ability. Even ATG ability should be limited to improvised mines and AT ditches for SW Pacific.
