Here's a report on a recent WOTR game using the "A Coat of Steel" rules. It was our 3rd go at the rules and the best yet, very atmospheric the way the random events fell. Could really do with a lot more figures, but that's always the way. . . .

Well done sir! An excellent report of an interesting game played with beautifully painted figures. I am a big fan of ACOS and we have had 3 or 4 very enjoyable games with it this year. Yes there is a fair amount of work involved, particularly if you also want to play the associated campaign game A Crown of Paper (which I heartily recommend), but it is definitely worth the effort.

We've played several games with ACOS and really like them as well.
I like the way events play out to give a good narrative to the game. We've started an "occasional" campaign with them, just to string our battles together. Our re-run of 1st St Albans went fairly like the original, except that Somerset and Northumberland avoided death. The second game saw an encounter in the north in which the left wings of both armies were victorious, whilst Somerset and York fought to a standstill in the centre. It was a particularly fatal day for the leaders on both sides, with the Earls of Warwick, Westmorland and Northumberland and Lord Fauconberg being killed and Lord Clifford extracting revenge for his father's death at St Albans. At some point I've got to work out where this leaves both sides and set up another game, probably next year now as our game calendar is pretty full for 2014.

Looks great. This ruleset is my holy grail. I so want to play it but historical interest seems to be at an all time low locally.

ACOS is well worth a go in my opinion. It was basically what made my mind up to to WOTR. I'd always liked the period but I thought that the games would be rather boring. ACOS looked to have the requisite feel and character I was after. Of course, there was a fair amount of downloading just to get the cards to try the game out before investing in large amounts of lead, but well worth it ultimately.
We tried to generate armies with the counters from the campaign game, which was just about possible, but really we need a much bigger pool of figures. That's no bad thing of course, where would we be if we couldn't find excuses to buy more figures?
