"The Bushmaster 4×4 armoured vehicle is currently deployed in Afghanistan with the Australian Army. The Bushmaster armoured vehicle, developed by Thales Australia (formerly ADI) in Australia is in full production at Thales's protected mobility systems manufacturing facility at Bendigo, Victoria.

The Australian Army has tested the vehicle over thousands of kilometres in the extreme climatic conditions and terrain from sub-zero mountain areas to desert and tropical conditions in north Australia. In July 2002, the Australian Army awarded a contract to ADI for 300 Bushmaster infantry mobility vehicles in six variants: troop transport, ambulance, direct fire, mortar, engineer and command.

With a road cruise speed of 100km/h, the Bushmaster transports troops, quickly and comfortably and is suitable for deployment in complex, diffuse and lethal operational environments such as Iraq. The Bushmaster family of vehicles provides high-level protection against anti-tank mines, improvised explosive devices, mortar fragments and small arms fire…"

Just saw some this morning whilst waiting outside a degenerate temple to alcoholism to collect the cash registers whose menu structures they keep changing but never bothered to learn to do themselves. Fun fact: the equipment boxes on the side are often labelled in paint-pen scrawl. Bluish paint pen, in this case.

They'd certainly make the morning commute a lot easier. Nobody is going to be able to crowd one of those out of your lane!

KFC is on the other side , half a mile down the road.

So is this the primary Aussie transport now? They still have M113 as well, don't they?

chironex22 Sep 2014 11:34 p.m. PST

I'm wondering if they still have ASLAV. Last time I saw a military base the only M113 hanging about was a permanent display outside a unit headquarters.

Motorised infantry role battalions have the Bushmaster as do some Cavalry although the Cav are still primarily equipped with the ASLAV-25 and PC. M113AS3/4 equip the Mechanised Infantry Battalions like 5 and 7 RAR.

As it might be of interest to some fellow gamers and/or model collectors, this vehicle is available in 1/700, 3mm and 6mm as well:

Kind regards,

Edit: I own the O8 miniature available from Pico Armor (one of the links above) and Fighting 15s. It is a very nice tiny model!

The Australian army is going through a pretty big restructure. There will be no more " mechanised " battalions . What you will get is a Armoured Cavalry Regiment ( 1 SQN of tanks , 1 SQN of ASLAVS , 1 SQN of M113 ) and 2 infantry battalions … There will be a company of bushmasters in the CSSB ( combat service support battalion ) to motorise a company or 2 … The 113 SQN in the ACR will be used to mech a company or 2 of infantry ….. All 3 brigades will be re configured exactly the same .

Mechanised infantry regulars and some reserve cavalry units and even some engineer units. Around 537 M113A3 's were converted and are now in service from what I understand
