…is that there is some cracking work being shared with us. Just recently I have seen a marked increase in miniature figure painting activity and composition much of which is of a very high standard. Also some very informative information and questions being answered. TMP is back to its best. Thank you. |

I would agree with that. The ultramodern board is kind of scary though. |
ochoin | 15 Sep 2014 1:32 p.m. PST |
Yes. I think recent improvements have helped (certainly not hurt) & my fellow TMPers are a talented & generous bunch. Gee, we mostly talk about figures & games here & who could argue with that? |
ironicon | 15 Sep 2014 2:11 p.m. PST |
I'm new to these forums (april) and it is nice to hear somthing positive. TMP is a great resourse of knowledge from people around the world. |

The ultramodern board is kind of scary though. It's why I avoid it most of the time. |

The ultramodern board is kind of scary though. But highly popular with certain gamers… |
Texas Jack | 15 Sep 2014 2:41 p.m. PST |
I only visit there when I am checking out who is in the dawghouse |
kallman | 15 Sep 2014 3:20 p.m. PST |
Still think we have lost some good people that will not return and we are poorer for it and for me that has left TMP without some of its pizzazz that made it different from other miniature forums . However there are some folks gone that I will not miss. |

"The ultramodern board is kind of scary though." Yup Guilty but at least I've quite. A bunch of Ak47 touting minis and some vehicles to go, and unfortunately its the world we live in, on the + side TMP does add a lot of other periods, articles and tuts that far outweighs us myopics and our tastes for grisly Moderns. TMP still tops in my book though Bill, and thanks to all you others for keeping it relevant guys. I can't even see pics with my trusty BlackenBerry on some of your competitor sites even :) but TMP always comes up bright and shiny. Cheers and happy gaming all.

I am glad to hear someone say that, Captain. |

I would agree with that. The ultramodern board is kind of scary though. I prefer to be blissfully ignorant. I almost never visit. I NEVER post to it for reasons you mention in your second post to this thread. |
Fizzypickles | 15 Sep 2014 5:54 p.m. PST |
So long as the dedicated members continue to share things that are the reason for being here all is well. I quite like popping onto the Ulra-Modern boards now and then. For a laugh if nothing else. So many 'experts'. |

IMHO, TMP has greatly improved over the past month or so and is trending upwards. Yeah, we did lose a lot of good people (and PAYING SUPPORTERS, of which I used to be one). If things continue on this trend and the old spirit that is returning stays and the "sturm und drang" stays gone, I may re-consider becoming a supporter again. I have no prob with the U-M boards, at least they keep you up to date as to what's going on, headlines wise, that isn't reported on the cable news networks or Huff post and such. Getting involved in a conversation there may not be my cup of tea, but at least knowing that something is taking place somewhere helps me keep my finger on the pulse of what's going on around the world today. |

I can't say I'm much interested in hearing the political views of others on a wargames' forum but Bill's installed a miraculous & highly technological feature to help. It's called "Don't go there". You simply don't click on the Ultramodern board & hey presto! you don't read anything that might upset the even tenor of your life. What will those whizz kids think of next….. |
Doug MSC | 15 Sep 2014 7:11 p.m. PST |
It is refreshing. Like the warm spring rain after a long cold, snowy winter. Uh, speaking of what it was like in Chicago, when I lived there. |
Texas Jack | 16 Sep 2014 2:23 a.m. PST |
Itīs the ultramodern board that really made me appreciate having the ability of turning boards off. But yeah, things round here are very pleasant these days! |
Pete Melvin | 16 Sep 2014 2:36 a.m. PST |
I quite like the Ultramodern board if I'm honest. I don't really follow any Military websites so having the stuff pop up about missles and subs and sundry that I'd never have known about is useful/interesting. Could do with a bit less OOH-RAH* but thats the nature of the best. * thats not a dig at The Cousins by the way, it covers all my-nation/country/region/hemisphere-is-better-than-your-nation-ers |
MacrossMartin | 16 Sep 2014 2:51 a.m. PST |
I blocked certain persons. I ignore a certain board. I should not need to, in order to enjoy a site that is supposed to be about toy soldiers and the games played with them. But I do. But the OP is right – there are some great things being shared by many members who have not forgotten why we are here. |

Then again, there are idiots like me…. |
Tony58 | 16 Sep 2014 4:19 a.m. PST |
I should not need to, in order to enjoy a site that is supposed to be about toy soldiers and the games played with them. Apart from fantasy & sci-fi gaming, aren't all periods of history including modern as it is happening now, not based on real life past & present? That act as reference points for toy soldiers and the games played with them. |
Martin Rapier | 16 Sep 2014 4:28 a.m. PST |
Well, we could just rename UM to Current Affairs and be done with it. At some point I'll turn it off. It has reduced the amount of froth and steam on other boards anyway. |
MH Dee | 16 Sep 2014 7:20 a.m. PST |
The Ultramodern board is a bit not on, I agree. But as suggested, I tend to avoid it. |
Martin Rapier | 16 Sep 2014 7:33 a.m. PST |
I just turned it off. My oh my, what a difference that makes. So all we need now is all the old regulars back and my happiness will be complete:) |
Centurian | 16 Sep 2014 3:27 p.m. PST |
If memory serves me correctly, about every third year or so there seems to be some issue that leads to a group of members leaving, after first raising a huge hissy fit. Then, like a summer storm, its over and the sunshine comes out again. |
Weasel | 16 Sep 2014 11:24 p.m. PST |
Ultra modern is mostly a CNN news feed and for people to discuss politics while being within the rules. If your interest is in gaming, just turn it off and stick with the regular "modern" board and the cold war one, where most of the questions about miniatures, TO&E's and games and modelling tends to end up. |
Lee Brilleaux | 17 Sep 2014 6:55 a.m. PST |
I have the modern boards turned off already, and added the Naked Women for Pimply Anoraks board to the list. I've also decided that I should deploy the Ignore and Stifle functions much more extensively, on the grounds that people who habitually annoy me shouldn't impinge on my reading pleasure. (I am sure some people feel exactly the same about me, and, hey, that's fine!) I do regret that the Lounge has lost a great deal of its collegial quality, though. |
jpattern2 | 17 Sep 2014 7:31 a.m. PST |
Do it, MJS. I have annoying boards turned off, and many annoying people stifled and/or ignored (most of whom are no longer even on TMP). Makes TMP much more enjoyable. I agree on the change in the Lounge, too. |
alien BLOODY HELL surfer | 18 Sep 2014 2:22 p.m. PST |
Well said MJS – can't speak for the lounge as not been there for ages. |
ochoin | 19 Sep 2014 3:13 a.m. PST |
The Lounge is OK. TMP is a pretty big place (the biggest figure/gaming site?) so you'll always get a wide range of members & diverse topics. Either the odd person/topic will annoy you enough to leave or you'll keep everything in perspective & look at the overwhelming value of TMP (& the Lounge). No offence to other sites but they can be a bit ethno-centric. I enjoy the wide geographical range membership. It really is like belonging to a world wide hobby not just the local club. |

Hey! I have a serious discussion about wargaming the territorial battles of urban squirrels as their habitat is being reduced due to local government infrastructure projects. It's about as ultramodern as you can get, since it is happening outside my front window. And you're missing it! Wait … maybe I crossposted it somewhere. OK, nothing to see here. Move along. |
Weasel | 05 Oct 2014 1:48 p.m. PST |
Etotheipi – I only do urban squirrel combat during the horse and musket era, sorry. |
