"Hans Grunert is no stranger to requests from Native Americans regarding the display of sacred items among the headdresses, moccasins, jewelry and hundreds of other artifacts at the Karl May Museum, housed in a faux-log cabin behind a stately 19th-century villa in this eastern German town. Since the museum's opening in 1928, a Blackfoot medicine man has held a smoke ceremony for the peace pipe collection, and Lakota have made recommendations on how to display the contents of medicine bags in a way that appeases the spirits. "We have always been concerned about the sacred objects, and careful that our displays respect native peoples' wishes for their treatment," said Mr. Grunert, the curator of the collection of 840 Native American artifacts from the late 18th to early 20th centuries…" Full article here link Amicalement Armand |

I have been to "Bad Segeberg" in Schleswig-Holstein",they have a whole western town ,indian village run by Winnebago Indians from here in northern Nebraska. Their is a western amphitheater they run shows in the summer time, with tales of Winnetou and Old Shatterhand. Karl may wrote all his stories without ever visting America. My grandfather and my dad read all his books. We have had German Cowboy choirs visit here in Omaha many a time. There is nothing more priceless then watching Bonanzamwhich they call Ponderosa in /German. But I definitely agree the remains should be returned, for peace of mind for the the tribes and also as assign of respect, which would also foster goodwill w/the tribes. In my sparetime as a Chef I was also the editorial cartoonist for the Navajo-Hopi Observer in Flagstaff/ Arizona for about 11 years, the tribes take a lot of abuse ,but their heritage is sacred. |

Wow! there pretty much isn't anything Apache in or about that Winnetou show. Poor old "lonely man" sure isn't living like a plains Indian as much as he thinks, they didn't use cots or any other furniture in their tepees. |
