Halfords is a well known (if you are in the UK) cycle/car accessories retailer, and I am already a committed user of their range of spray paints for both white and black undercoat. Recently they have offered a 3-tone range of "cammo" paints, including a khaki and also a Dark Green. The Dark Green looks pretty ideal for that difficult-to-achieve WW2 Allied AFV colour, so having some 15mm PCS Churchills, 20mm Plastic Soldier Company Shermans and a handful of Battlefront carriers to paint, I thought I'd give it a go. Second that, very interesting… Can't believe I'm actually waiting to watch paint (well, wash) dry… :-) |

Nice paint jobs Can I suggest you try putting the decals on after the dark tone? I find they sit better on the semi-gloss varnish finish than they do on matt and you get less silvering. John T |

I did put a clear gloss base down onto the areas where the decals went before applying them to the models, and then did the darktone on top of that. Sandwiching them between two layers of gloss (and then finishing with Testors dullcote) usually takes the silvering away completely, hence why I was surprised that it didn't here. But, as you suggest, doing darktone first might be a better base finish to apply them anyway, and it would stop them being, erm, darkened too much as well. Good shout |
