link "China's parliament – National People's Congress – introduced a bill very similar to the bill now under consideration by the State Duma of the Russian accession Crimea to Russia. We are talking about a document that provides for the accession of China to the part of a foreign country if the local residents in a referendum will decide on becoming a part of the Chinese state, according to ICTV. The project, which made ββthe deputy Wang Han Sun Feb. 28, actually involves the annexation of the territory of a neighboring state – in particular, the Russian Far East." |

6 September, China began to pull its troops to the border with Russia, according to sources in the FSB Border Service of Russia. For example, concentrations of troops was seen in the Chinese city bordering Mayatun (Majiatun). "Column with heavy machinery, 12-15 thousand troops and artillery began to camp in Mayatune. Our FSBshniki try to hide this stressful time, but local media have already begun to apply this information. Not yet clear goal concentrations of troops on the border, but something smells bad "- said the representative of the Border correspondent. link |

That could really heat things up. Am I interpreting this correctly- China is using Russia's legal position regarding Ukraine to take possession of territory from Russia? |

Typical big power politics. Russia gets involved in the West so China sees an opportunity. Russia sees what China is up to and all of a sudden offers a cease fire to Ukraine. |

Has this been confirmed by a reliable (ie, non-Russian) source? China would really have *zero* interest in authoring such an act, since Tibet would use the same logic to leave China in a heartbeat. -Will |

China is using Russia's legal position regarding Ukraine to take possession of territory from Russia? That's how I am seeing it. I predicted this soon as I saw Russia was starting to move towards deals with China, although this says dated Feb 28? Next step will be "now you are dependent on us buying your gas, we don't like the price…" There have been demonstrations in Catalan too, calling for a referendum on independence… |

Can't seem to find Mayatun on a map, found Majiatun but that's inside China and not exactly a city. |

Based on that as a legal precedent, the US should just go ahead and acquire Cancun once and for all! Dan |

The second site is wishful thinking/propaganda it's a Ukrainian site with Russian replies being very dismissive. Would China try something like this of course, but probably not yet. China is too busy working with Russia to develop Central Asia, for both resources and to isolate the Uighur separatists in Xinjiang. Have a great day, Foxtrot |

China and Russia are supposedly 'cooperating' right now, like this: link But it doesn't mean China will not use leverage (i.e. Russia's new dependence on China due to European and US sanctions) to gain concessions from Russia. |

Sadly thats a lot easier to do if, say, you have a bunch of tanks and guns rather than some prayer beads and natty orange robes |

Tibet leaving China? How would that work when China has ALL the guns? What a silly comparison. |

I'd say it is aimed more on Filippina/Vietnam/Taiwan territories, and may be, on Japanese islands where there's a territorial conflict. During a demarkation of the border with China several years ago, Chinese got some minor territorial gains (incuding a part of Damanskiy island, where there was a bloody fight in 60s). I'm not afraid of China miltary actions at the moment, economical influence is a different matter. Half of Kazakhstan are practically owned by Chinese already, as well as quite a number of African countries. In 20-30 years they can become the first world power, and they might get our help on the way…don't think it is in our interests though. |

But it doesn't mean China will not use leverage (i.e. Russia's new dependence on China due to European and US sanctions) to gain concessions from Russia. And that's my real fear here- that we're 'forcing' Russia into China's orbit and that sooner or later China will give Russia an offer she can't refuse. I would prefer to see Russia as a close ally and partner, or at least as a strong and independent state. Putin fears that Russia will become a western state dominated by the US/NATO. It would be ironic if it simply became that for the PRC. |

He is very much aware of that, and during recent years a problem with illegal migration of Chinese into Russian Far east was more or less curbed. However, China, Singapore and South Korea are pretty much the only source of foreign capital we have available at the moment, and oil and gas companies have huge investment plants in LNG/Petrochem/etc in the far east. Therefore, Chinese will most likely get a nice share in the plants and pipelines, and this means they'll use their own suppliers, designers and workers. In Kazakhstan you already have the gas plants with pipelines that were sold upfront for 20 or 30 years with the only buyer of gas is China. Hope Putin&Co will have enough brains to find a better solution. |

There have been demonstrations in Catalan too Nothing new. Catalonian independence has been mooted for a long time and a 2014 referendum was mentioned last year. When I was in Barcelona in 2011 they displayed a lot of hate towards the Spanish. Apparently some Spanish generals remarked they had an obligation to ensure the integrity of Spain. I wonder how Europe would react if Catalonia voted for independence and the Spanish army rumbled in to prevent it? |
