For those of you that do any research into your ancestry there is a wealth of information and ACW documents at Fold3.com. I found more on my relatives that fought for the Confederacy than my father who was in Vietnam! Enlistment records, muster cards, pay receipts ect. I even found a copy of a receipt for horse forage signed by my Great, Great Grandfather! |

I always just about sign up but then back out! :) A couple of years back they had a special where the opened up all the Civil War records for free. Needless to say I spent a lot of time downloading documents concerning the same subject as yourself! |

You can also use FamilySearch ( familysearch.org ) for free to assist you in searching for your Civil War ancestor. And the National Park Service Soldiers and Sailors data base has rudimentary information that can lead you on to other sources. link Based on the Mississippi state archives where I work, I would surmise that every state archives, North or South, who contributed troops to the war will have a copy of the National Archives microfilm records about their state troops service. We have "service records" microfilm for all of the Confederate units and some of the Union units (getting more USCT records as they are produced). Jim |
