Hi,
I thought this might be fun. Imagine you have come into enough money to comission 5 28mm figures, they are just for your personal collection, not for sale and you can get any sculptor to do the work. What would you get done?
I'd comission a set of the 5 main characters from the old TV Western series "The High Chapperal" and comission the guy who did the Crooked Dice Department X figures as he has a real talent for capturing the likenesses of TV characters.

John Armatys13 Sep 2014 4:18 p.m. PST

Victorian servants (without guns!), butler, footman, cook and a couple of maids.

Wildman13 Sep 2014 4:23 p.m. PST

I'd like figures of Sergeant Saunders, Caje, Kirby, Little
John, and Doc from the TV show "Combat!".

SJDonovan13 Sep 2014 4:30 p.m. PST

They would all be Naploenics in the style of 2nd gen 15mm Minifigs and I would commission Marsha Ney on foot during the retreat from Moscow, Princess Louise of Prussia riding in a carriage, British sergeants with half-pikes in both stovepike and Belgic shakoes, and French colour guards carrying ceremonial halberds.

skippy000113 Sep 2014 4:33 p.m. PST

WWII female fighter pilots and bomber crews.

Characters from the Wild Wild West tv show

'50's/'60's biker gang

Grelber13 Sep 2014 4:48 p.m. PST

I've been thinking about Foreign Legion characters. You know: the disgraced Guards officer, the Russian giant, the sadistic sergeant, the weaselly corporal, maybe the gallant French officer.

Of course, I could also think up a couple Vikings, too.

Lawrence Olivier as General Burgoyne.

Sigourney Weaver as Ripley.

Liam Neeson as Rob Roy MacGregor.

Jane Fonda as Barbarella.

John Neville as Baron von Munchausen.

Five different multi-part plastic figures for representing Dian Kingdom troops.

The Gray Ghost13 Sep 2014 5:18 p.m. PST

well one of the things I'm looking for right now is a 32mm armored pharaoh so that would be one, other than that I like the idea of the Victorian servants

Buckeye AKA Darryl13 Sep 2014 5:24 p.m. PST

Proper Wayne's Legion figures in 15mm. Line infantry with bayonets welded to the musket, rifles with tomahawks as a side weapon (not a bayonet scabbard, but wielding a tomahawk, King's Howitzers with artillery crew in proper hat, and sub-legion commanders mounted, wearing proper hat. If I ever win the lottery, or if someone wants me to be the voice and they will take on the sculpting, we would make it the most historically correct range for the Legion of the United States. Frying Pan & Blanket come close, but their figures, while still very affordable, are 20mm and a bit stiff in their poses.

Harlem Globetrotters, I need them to go with Scooby and the gang.

A new 28mm figure of Davout ideally as we was at Eckmuhl (although I like Foundry, not a fan of their Davout)

28mm figure of Hong Xiuquan as the leader of the Tai Pings

A multi-pose 28 mm Chinese Imperial infantryman, Tai Ping vintage

Ditto but for a rebel, Tai Ping period

Great-great grandpa George as an infantry private, 4th Minnesota, Army of the Tennessee

Atomic Floozy13 Sep 2014 5:55 p.m. PST

Col. Ranald Slidell "Bad Hand" Mackenzie, Lt. Peter Boehm with his White sombero, an 1874 Maroon Seminole Scout, & Satanta or other Kiowa wearing the traditional Kiowa hair braid.

The next sculptor that does another unimaginative sculpt of Custer or Crazy Horse should be shot!

The cast of Black Adder goes forth?

I would have said the three figures for "The Spirit of 76", but DAF's Fife and Drum took care of that for me a year ago. So I'm good.

Weasel,

You at least are catered for. Try Scarab Miniatures WW1 range of Characters.

At the moment I want early WW1 cyclists in 10mm but next month it will undoubtedly be something else.

The difficulty isn't getting them sculpted but in getting moulds made and into production by someone.

bong6714 Sep 2014 2:56 a.m. PST

Hi,
Thanks to everyone for their excellent contribution, if they were for sale I'd buy all of them, although as a collector of Western figures I'd have the characters for the Professionals first. I have the Snot and Grotesque Wild Bunch so these would compliment them perfectly.
I also liked the suggestion for the Mad Max truck. So lets take the game further. You now have enough money to comission two vehicles or ships (in 28mm) so what would they be? I'd comission a 28mm Elizabethan galleon and a larger 28mm Spanish galleon, both waterlined and suitable for gaming.
All the best,
George

Atomic Floozy14 Sep 2014 5:23 a.m. PST

28mm post civil war U.S. Army Ambulances. One configured as an ambulance to carry the wounded & one configured as a coach for senior officers such as Sherman used on his inspection tours.

I know if I were any good at scratch building, I could modify the ambulance in Old Glory's ACW line. But my scratch building abilities are next to nothing.

Yancy Derringer, Bat Masterson, Brett Maverick from old tv series

LOL you know it has to be totally esoteric and of no use to anyone else guys . 2 ideas I'd just love
1. Me and the Simpson's on the couch for a End of Days Apocalypse game.
2. Me again with my mate Liem in 1920s garb with H P Lovecraft and a couple of old people that could be or not be my folks.. (A don't ask too many questions game 8+D)
Of course if you want me to be normal about it :) I'd have to say some kind of Zouaves from Africa 1900 to 1940, Basic zouave uniform with tallish fez and tassel putties no shoes or maybe slippers with up pointed toes, negroid features 3 in various rifle advance, one with bugle advancing, and one with multipart for rifle or arms to hold flag advancing (could be NCO or standard bearer) Officers are not a problem unless I still feel the I'd of self personality then I want myself in a colonial uniform running and puffing behind the lads:-)
Thanks and Cheers very entertaining and nice idea for a competition price. ( I want the chap form Musketeer Minis to do them though)

dBerczerk14 Sep 2014 10:54 a.m. PST

Winston Smith -- I've searched the "Fife & Drum" site, but could not find the three figures for the "Spirit of 76" you mentioned.

Were they a special run / Kickstarter reward?

I could definitely use more AWI militia command figures

brunet14 Sep 2014 12:52 p.m. PST

28mm French revolution Dutch army figures

Can I have more than one pick? I'd love to see well done -
Bogie and Bacall from "To Have and Have Not"
Nick and Nora Charles and Asta
Rondo Hatton (The Creeper)

Norrins14 Sep 2014 2:48 p.m. PST

If you'd asked two weeks ago, I would have said the Ghostbusters, but given Crooked Dice now have that covered…
I would settle for some decent Star Trek (all series) figures.

Maria Theresa
Elizabeth of Russia
Madamme Pompadour.

All of them mounted side-saddle in riding habit or gowns as in reviewing troops.

Actually in the past I tried working with three separate sculptors to do this. All of them lost interest "when it was determined that … NO, I did not want a Ork-maiden with pulse lazer or a catoblepas-- or more particularly, whatever they desired to make, nor did I want them in high-heels and bare midriff and bikini with a huge oversized weapon.

Gave it up. Now I make my own.

28mm? Not my scale for the most part. Okay, maybe the leads from Tales of the Gold Monkey-- Jake in his crush cap and Flying Tigers jacket, Corky in his coveralls and cap, Sarah in something both sexy and practical (and of the era), Bon Chance Louie, and Jack as the Jack Russell Terrier he is, not just a dog with an eye patch. I know of the proxies, and some are quite good, but Jack still hasn't been done right.

Now, if this expanded into any scale, I'd have more to suggest!

bong6715 Sep 2014 10:52 a.m. PST

OK,
I'll expand the game to include any scale but try to keep the suggestions to a pack or set of figures equivalent in value to a pack of 5 28mm figures.
Thanks to everyone once again, the ideas are great and so creative.
All the best,
George.

Norrins15 Sep 2014 1:56 p.m. PST

I know they would have next to no use on a wargames table, but I'd like to see minis of various TV characters.

I know I've already mentioned Star Trek minis, don't think they will happen anytime soon. What about Battlestar inspired figures? The Lost In Space crew? The crew of the Nostromo.

But how about Holmes & Watson from Sherlock. Or Holmes & Watson from Elementary? Riggs & Murtaugh from Lethal Weapon. I'd pay for a House MD figure.

Russell12012015 Sep 2014 6:32 p.m. PST

Since this is a "wish list", it seems like you could answer some historical arguments: late Theban hoplites with correct length of spear/pike in hand. That kind of thing.

Other than that, I like Zargon's idea, but would go for my family defending our backyard tree house with nerf guns.

jdginaz15 Sep 2014 9:05 p.m. PST

doubt that it could be done with only 5 figures but, I would like to see a range of figures for the WWII US Army in the Pacific in both 15mm and 28mm.

Lucius16 Sep 2014 3:52 a.m. PST

I'd get someone to finish the Thunderbolt Mountain Nativity Set. I originally bought the Holy Family figures when my daughters were in elementary school, hoping to add some every year as an heirloom.

Next month I'm taking my oldest on a trip to look at colleges. I'm no longer wondering if there will be any more additions to the set before she leaves home. I'm wondering if there will be any more before I'm buried . . .
