It looks to me like most folks who field Trojans paint their shields in a spotted cowhide pattern. Which is cool with me. But before I start painting them, I'd like to hear some other options. Anybody have a different opinion on the shields of Ilium? Historical, literary, archaeological, or artistic references? |

I believe the Trojans were a Hittite colony; have you looked up Hittite shields? |

They were a client state or paid tribute to the Hittites, but I think they were culturally distinct. The shields sold with Hittite minis are quite different in shape from the ones sold with Trojans. |

Paintings of Mycenaean and Cretan shields all show cowhide shields and I've always thought of Trojans as being similar. link link |

I'd say that pretty much any 8th-7th century BC shield designs/colors ought to be fine for the Trojans. |
