What rules do people use for modern naval? Up til now I've generally played Seastrike, but I'd like to try some miniatures gaming. Any suggestions (nothing too complex)?

Shipwreck,Bulldogs away

I have Surface Battle Group and Naval Warfare in the Missile Age, but haven't tried either yet. However, they both look good. Neither look terribly complex. I've heard SBG compared to GQ1, if you have experience with them. They are both available on Wargame Vault. Hope that helps,

Mike

I like Harpoon, but they are complicated adn bith players have to really know what they are doing so haven't played them for a few years.

Shipwreck are great as they are relatively simple, but have great feel and easy to pick up for a club game.

Where can I get the rules?

You can order the Shipwreck! rules at the Vandering publishing website.

I can't get their website to load in my browser. I just get a blank page.

Bulldogs away should be availible from the PT dockyard site.

Be forewarned, however, that Shipwreck doesn't include ship stats – you have to download those off the website.

Shipwreck.

Possibly hard to find. Very active Yahoo group. Very playable.

I'm not doing much modern naval wargaming apart from Bulldogs Away. In the not too distant past I've been using a home grown variant of GQ which works pretty well.

I've been using Modern Naval Battles (www.dvg.com), with 1/700 scale ships (1/350 scale aircraft and 1/144 scale missiles). Information about the base game and some pictures of some of my games (see review) are at link and in the discussion area is a set of home grown rules to make a more Seastrike version of MNB.

I believe you have to use IE to view the page. It's old. It hasn't been updated in a loooong time.

Personally I like Warship Commander 2nd edition available from Navwar.

Looking at the SBG rules. Am I right in thinking you get ship counters with the game?

Just out of interest, a friend pointed me towards Phil Barker's Subs and SAMs set (free download). Anybody played them, and if so, what are they like? Is it a DBA type system like his pre-dreadnought rules?
