I've started a new series on the Saxon army on my blog, illustrated by my vintage Minifigs ([painting is nothing special, but I am still happy with the hand painted flags from 25 years ago), with many additional references.

Post 1809 Saxons are a rarity indeed. Why six bases for FOB 2? |

Peter, Very nice, every time you post newly painted Minifigs 25mm figures, I can't help but smile. John |

Hi Peter! Great looking regiment! Can't believe you actually have units still to paint! Your collection is ENORMOUS! Eric PS – I thought you were working on your Brits? |

IDYM: Six bases per unit because virtually all my Napoleonic Infantry have been 6 bases of three since circa 1970! :-) Long before FoB, Piquet, etc. These were painted circa 1990 or earlier, so only "new" compared with the really, really old stuff ! :-). I am (mostly) working on British for Waterloo, for the most part, although I just finished 2 units of fine Foundry Austrian Hussars. Joe and I bought and split some 30 Hussars from Freddie Avner at Historicon 2012, and I had been dying to paint them. (Eric aka DOB2's collection is no slouch, except that he has been selling off parts of it to focus on some others, like his lovely 15mm SYW armies. Maybe we might see those at HCon 2015, Eric?) |

Truly Fabulous Saxons; powerful reminder of my mid 1970s mixed minifigs/Hinchcliff (modest) french allied force. OK so most of it was what I was dreaming of, and I remember persuading a parent to type a letter to minifigs setting out each Liliane and Fred Funcken French allied force they might consider (esp Saxons G & LG) and my joy at receiving a reply at all! (from recollection an appropriately gentle palm off). Was then left with pleasant dreams which I am now (belatedly) seeking to re-kindle… Great to see some interest in Saxon infantry! |

Cheers for that. It is funny what mattered to us at the time. Hope the Napoleonic overlords are looking after you and your battalion! |
