Hi Gents, I appreciate the help with my last posting. So I've gone through my 2 Ospreys on Austrian Infantry, I've pored through Google Books; "Auszug aus dem Exercier Reglement für die K.K. Infanterie vom Jahr 1807", but, wouldn't ya know, the darn thing is in Austrian. I've reviewed the napoleon-series.org, napoleonistyka.atspace.com, napoleonguide.com, and though I'm finding data regarding the types of flags used based on battalion, campaign year, and unit type (Line v Grenadier), I cannot find any information or (preferably) any diagrams displaying the composition of the color guard for an 1809 Austrian Line and/or Grenadier Bttln. Would anyone know their composition offhand? Was it similar to the French with flagbearers flanked by corporals, or sergeants with halberds, or pikes, or muskets? Were the proceeding ranks filled by NCO's as well? Thank you so very much for any insights, I absolutely appreciate it. Cheers, Bob |

Hi Bob, If no one comes up with an answer to this you could try posting your query on the General de Brigade website. Dave Hollins, who is an expert on all things Austrian often replies to questions there. generaldebrigade.fr.yuku.com |

I miss Dave Hollis, so sorry he was driven off of TMP by the Idiot Tendency… |

All I could find in the Exerzierreglement that the colour bearer had a second Lieutenant on his left and right side |
grenadier corporal | 10 Sep 2014 10:14 a.m. PST |
There was no "colour-guard" resembling the French system mentioned above. The two subalterns were just next in line. The colour-bearer was a NCO ("Führer"). |
