While on vacation I penned a rough draft of "Rifles Forward". These are my black powder campaign rules very solitaire friendly. I played a small battle near Philidelphia.
Found here: platoonforward.blogspot.com

That sounds cool, pretty cool, Joe.
I am enjoying your Squadron Forward rules now as a Southern Barbarossa air campaign. We've played 7 or 8 games with 5 people having Luftwaffe, VVS and Romanian fighter squadrons.

Joe,
Are the rules available somewhere for free, or for purchase? Also, where are you in Philly?

Microbiggie,

This is cool. Glad you are enjoying Squadron Forward. I have a Romanian squadron as well. What are you boys flying?

Nnascati,

They won't be available until I playtest all the scenarios thoroughly and tweek any charts that need it. That will probably take into the spring. For example, on the raid scenario if it doesn't take place at night (what I was thinking when I wrote it) then it should really take place at dawn or reduced visibility. Also the garrison needs to be delayed. I knew these things but didn't write it in yet. Now I have to play several more times to see how these changes affect play balance.

Squadron Forward ( WW II air) and Platoon Forward ( WW II land) are available from the Too Fat Lardies website.

I actually don't live near Philly. I lived in Mt Holly about 20 years ago. The battle took place near Philly. Sorry about the confusion.

Cheers

Joe

Joe,
Thanks for the info on the rules. I am stuck playing mostly solo, so always on the look out for gamers in the Philly/So. Jersey area.

Joe, We have one player with Romanian Bf109e and another one (who was really excited to game and asked for a certain day of the week to play and who has not shown up yet!) who has IAR80 squadron. I have I-16s and another regular has MiG3s and the last regular has Luftwaffe 109Es. So far we've had encounters with Romanian Hurricane(most potent plane so far), He 112s, Blenheims, Poetz, Los and Pzl 23 bombers. I have some Pzl 11s, SM79JRs, and even a couple of MB210s. Other Soviet planes flown have been I-153s, SB2 varieties and DB3. With such a huge variety of aircraft, things never get boring using Squadron Forward.

nnascati,

I hear you. All my games are solitaire friendly for that reason.

Microbiggie,

That sounds great! You have to love the Eastern Front until 43. Almost anything goes. What scale do you use? Where did you find a HE 112?

Cheers

Joe
